Well having seen the BBC1 programme this evening on the South Yorkshire police force I can only feel great sadness for the police who have to do this kind of job.

It must be very difficult dealing with morons with such a base intellect in an attempt to clear up motoring issues, no insurance, no MOT, drugged ectect.

What has led to such a degredation of society?

It's the goverment that has done it!
Forcing people off the roads, I drive an old banger (She's a lovely car rearly) 300 quid job (Cavalier - Fantastic if it ever breaks down there's always a dumped one on the side of the road for spares!) But it costs 180 quid to TAX it then 300 quid to insure it TPFT and that's before I can even go and put some Petrol in it!
If I had the guts I would drive a desiel motor on red derv or eco derv but knowing my luck I'd get caught!
I don't know how you guys manage to run them lovely cars? You must all be millionairs!

if you want to run on red derv, just avoid farm sales and any thing agricultural, all will be fine ! if you get stopped put on a thick irish accent and all will still be fine! but if you listen to customs and excise ! red derv will shag your engine! thats why all farmers spend £150,000 on a combine and run it on crap red fuel! really who are they trying to fool! morons! best thing to do is to buy a really cheap diesel old 205 or some such run it on red and do not say anything to anyone! and when you buy your red derv do not pick it up in the vehicle you are running it on! or so i heard,

LOL- If there is one bunch of mean muvvas you do NOT want to be messing with it's C and E. They have far greater (and more draconian) powers than the police do. Take red for example. If they suspect you're using it they can demand a sample, if you refuse it's bye-bye car. If you are using it it's bye-bye car and an on-the-spot non-negotiable £500 fine. And they have visa swipe machines on them. If you can't pay it's bye-bye car.

Members of the "gipsy travelling" community (i have been fitted with a pc chip, see?) HATE C and E even more than people who have no control over their right foot hate the cameras

Probably all from producers Pug. And no insurance is bad mojo. Especially if you get hit by someone who has none...

Then let drug takers off with a caution.

[rant mode: ON]
It's a disgrace that out of three lads with drugs and syringes caught on the show last night only one was prosecuted!

For *injecting* class A drugs!!!

Where do plod think these guys get the cash for drugs?

I was disgusted. If you drive you get prosecuted. All other crime is tolerated.
[rant mode: OFF]

On a positive note:

Good news about the insurance...

Searching people who might have needles is heroically f**king brave. Whichever way you look at it that's risking your life day in day out.

Tony - why did the Police Doctor at the station say that the druggie in that programme would not be having a blood test? The copper on the prog said what the Doc says is final, but surely that's a bunch of arse when you've got a suspect who's just been driving a car and he's in a state?

There is no blood limit for drugs I'm afraid so we have to go for unfit. The doctor has a number of test he carries out to see if, in his opinion, the driver was unfit to drive.

The following is NOT a pi55take.

One of the tests is this. Place your hand on the edge of the table with your fingers hanging over the edge. Place your middle/little/ring fingers together in a group of 3 and leave your index finger seprate.

Get a 30cm ruler. Get someone to drop it between your index and middle finger and try and catch it.

The "official" ruler has phrases like "mashed", "wasted", "bombed", "strung out", "chilled" etc written along it. Where they catch it gives an indication of the condition they are in!

There are other tests to measure reaction time, spatial awareness etc. Funny game innit?

I have to say that in my youth, I was known to drive back from London (to Brighton) on E on a regular basis. And no, not entirely proud to say it but looking back it certainly made me happier to do 60 on a motorway than I would usually.

I also drove once on the same route on acid, the one event which made me give up drugs altogether, no accident but very scarey.

If I may be devils advocate, I would rather a 19 year old be driving down the road on E than driving on booze, although obviously neither is the preferable option.

I'd make a great Home Secretary, don't you think?

wanty1974, are you a total moron? i sincerely hope you are extracting the urine.

firstly, if you were driving under the influence of which ever cocktail of chemicals you had been taking, you were endangering your own life due to inability to judge distance, speed etc but also everyone who was driving near you at the same time.

No-one should be allowed to drive under influence of drink or drugs etc and i think a lot of people don't realise what effect even cold medicines etc have on your abilty to concentrate and react.

I hope you also realise that somewhere along the line your drugs purchase is helping some gun-toting drug thug who probably has an army of thuggish friends who enjoy breaking into elderly people’s homes to steal from them.

sir, I believe you are an idiot.
