Quick E46 Aux Fan Question

My friends 99' 318 has a slight problem - the cooling fan in front of the radiator stays on even when the ignition is turned off. It has just started doing it. The temp reads normal when driving on the dash. Would the fan relay be the first port of call? Anyone have an experience with this problem?

Do you mean it STAYS on, or is it just on for a period of time after the engine is switched on ? Perfectly normal if on for a short while.

Nope, will stay on until unplugged. We did leave it for several hours before disconnecting.

Take a read on there, I've definetly seen threads about them fixing it on there. Good luck finding it.
