Evenin' all,
After reading the lock-bumping thread I'm thinking of getting some anti-bump lock cylinders. For obvious reasons I don't want to mail order them or have any chance that the company I'm ordering from will also know the address to which they will be fitted... (call me paranoid!)
It seems that to avoid disclosing the cardholders address I could use paypal(/ebay) and have them sent to work, but is there anyway the ebay seller would know my home address rather than the shipping address?

(am thinking of something like this btw: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CISA-Astral-S-UPVC-Door-Lock-Euro-Cylinder-Anti-Bump_W0QQitemZ360136084225QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_HaG_Lock_Safes_GL?hash=item360136084225&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1686)

It's not that I want to order something off ebay and save abit, just that I don't want to disclose my address. Can't think of any decent shops nearby that might do them either.

No-one in their right mind would send to an address other than the registered one as then the seller has no protection at all from Paypal.

If you're that paranoid, look up locksmiths and similar in Yellow Pages, ask if they can supply what you want, drive over and pay cash.

I would agree with this.

Also how do you plan on receiving the bits.

Maybe a local cash purchase would be the most secure way if you are being a bit paranoid.

Done it plenty of times without a problem. All you need to do is specify another address when sending funds and the seller will only see that address not your home one.

Never thought of it from the sellers point of view - 90% of the stuff I get off the 'bay is delivered to work (including a couple £500+) and never had any issues, do think it's "verified" or anything (unlike the home addy). Will have a look in YP though.

Crikey, you guys haven't purchased on ebay for a while, have you!

Just click 'change address' on the first page of ebay checkout, you can send to a work address, friend, neighbour, cat, dog etc.

Paypal does an address check on the delivery address to check for known fraud related addresses. If you have a paypal account already, this will go through straight away (new paypal account may have a 24 hour pending period whilst the payment is cleared), seller will get their 'seller protection' (for what it's worth).

It's a relatively new (about 18 months old) service for business sellers, where you can sign up to avoid the 'confirmed address' delivery addresses, and still keep the 'seller protection'. Most volume sellers will have been offered this by paypal, and should have signed up to the enhanced service.

Sending items to another address isn't a problem with ebay/paypal unless you're buying from a private seller with a standard paypal account.

Hope that helps y'all.

p.s. well over 10'000 feedbacks and 8 years on ebay, I should offer consultancy....

So what's to stop me stealing your credit card and getting a plasma screen sent to 14 Kilimanjaro Street, Lagos, Nigeria?

Paypal anti-fraud is pretty hot on that sort of thing.

There's a few systems out there for anti-fraud addresses, 'Third Man' being one, 'Early Warning' being another. Both are basically databases of fraud-related addresses where fraudulent goods have been sent or ordered to be delivered to.

Anyway, don't ask me how paypal run their anti-fraud systems, the question was can you deliver an item to an address other than your paypal confirmed address, and the answer is yes, if the seller is a business seller that signed up to the paypal enhanced protection (most should have).

The 'enhanced protection' (that's what paypal call it) is only available to volume/business sellers, it's free to join so most sellers have done so. It basically gives the same seller protection but allows to send to 'unconfirmed' addresses (normally a work address or relative/neighbour).

I'm pretty sure they would spot Nigeria fairly quickly, they're a bit more on top of the game than that....

When you try and buy something and just use a normal card now, not registered to paypal already, you have to provide the credit card billing address, and the cardholders date of birth. Therefore, if you just found a card and tried to use it, you wouldn't know that detail. I hope! If you know that you can still get it delivered to a different address.
