My Tam is making a 'bonk' type of noise from the N/S petrol tank area.

I think it may be the fuel level float or something.

It's fairly random and not specifically related to acceleration or braking. Seems more steering related but doesn't always occur on turning.

Maybe the diff mounting? Or a spring / shocker knock?

Anyone had anything similar?

I had a similar noise from the rear of my T350. One of the springs bas bowing towards the anti roll bar and catching on it when cornering.
At thst time the car was under warranty and the company rotated the spring round.
It didn't happen again after that but I have now changed to Nitrons - worth a look you can see if there is clearance through the rear wheels.

The ride height was increased at the last service so it may be spring related.

Sounds a bit like the exhaust swinging around so I'll get it on the ramps at the weekend.

I have a 'bonk' on mine too when turning right after driving straight or being stationary. Diff being replaced Tuesday.

Sounds expensive.

Is that under warranty?

How did they test the diff? Was it stripped down?

(Got me worried now.)

Its been tracked to the diff on the basis that everything else has been checked, checked and checked again. The diffs apparently also suffer in a spin (so I am advised) which mine incurred last year so the diff is actually being replaced under the original insurance claim.

Its being done Tuesday I should be able to confirm after that.

It is believed that the bong is the plates releasing as the wheels attempt to move at different speeds following a period of travelling at the same speed. Which makes some sense.

Diff is quite noisy but always has been. So was my Chims.

Do you really need a new one if it's 'bonking'?

Presumably it will last a while but just get more clunky until something breaks?

Yeh your quite right, its driveable and you dont notice any difference other than the noise and occasional feeling of it freeing up. As I can get it replaced now for free seems like the best plan.

Sorry its been all quiet this end, been awaiting the diff for a week. Picking up tonight so will be able to report whether the new diff has got rid of 'bonk'
