I hope I can get some straight answers here in a short space of time...

Just agreed a deal to chop in my M5 for an agreed value for a part deposit on a 09/58 335D M sport saloon with 16 miles on the clock...with decent spec...cash back for me as I'm financing the rest (long story involving house and the wife)!!!!

Thing is, for a similar price I can have a sept 08 58 plate with 2,600 miles similar spec but with the facelif rear lights and extra lines on the bonnet....

Weird thing in all this is I get a pre facelift 335d M Sport with 16 miles on the clock and warranty till feb 2012....so obviously on an older model registered late...

Or do I say stuff it and take a sept 08/58 model registered on time but facelifted!!!?

Arghhhhh....the 09 registered bit is doin my head in!!!!! Hope this makes sense!!

And before you start......I am not interested in the mapping debate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd have the facelift model. You'll also get the updated I-drive and come resale it will be slightly better for you.

Thinking that....but am thinking will it make much difference over 2/3 years?

Also am under warranty till feb 2012 with the older late registered model which has only 16 miles on clock at the mo..compared to a facelift registered in sept 08 (out of warranty sept 11) and 2600 miles to date...

Gawd I don't know....

I'd have the facelift model. I think the front looks a fair bit nicer.

Is retrofitting the facelift items out of the question??

You can pretty much retrofit any option on most cars it seems, can be eye watering though£££££££££

The rear light are completely different as is the bonnet....also the Idrive controllers bits!! But is it worth a five month newer car and only 16 miles!!!

Go for 16miles/longer warranty/newer reg/deal done etc etc.

After all, it is SO much closer to your own NEW car, rather than being actually second-hand!

You may not get same deal on the other car anyway.

One note, tougher if you're a low mileage driver, time-based checks will come up earlier as the timer starts from build date not registration date.

Has the non facelift car been sitting in a compound doing nothing for 6 months?

I'd get the facelift car in any event. All the tweeks and changes make it a better car, and it will be worth a bit more come trade in time.

The M5 didn't last too long. I take the range was a deciding factor now you are after an oil burner.

Maybe he always had an itch for one and no matter how short he livd the dream - then came the realisation 535d pretty much does everything most people need & is plenty quick enough.

The M5 lasted a whole 6 months, range can be a pain but the car more than makes up for it...had my fun for now...

Sensibility has kicked in as well as having to put more miles in shortly for work so fuel costs will become more of a pain...

Warranty is due in May as well

The 335d should be sufficient for now with enough pace to keep me going!

Will miss the M5 but am glad it's an itch that's been scratched and the next step in a couple of years may be the new M5....

Fair play. I'm still waiting to scratch the M-cars itch. Good luck with the new car.

Couldn't grumble at the fact that I got given just £500 short of what I paid for it 9k miles and 6 months ago!!!

Though their car may have been £1k overpriced but still quite please at the cost of my M itch!!

Hmmm if they had an LCI model then yes, but unfortunately they don't so would have to potentially forfeit £1k...

That will teach me to do my research first which I normally do!! But not this time :-(

Hey ho....suppose at the end of the day, the car has only 16 miles on the clock and was registered in Feb 09...so nearly the full whack of 3 years warranty to go!!

Take the facelifted car. Looks better. Generally speaking, all problematic areas are addressed in the facelift. Likely to retain more value. Just look at the price difference between an otherwise identical 2001 Y and 2001/51 E46. At least 10%, if not more.
