Thompson back in the BTCC replacing Sheddon

James Thompson is going to be replacing Gordon Shedden in the Honda Civic at Team Dynamics. Shedden to return possible later in a 3rd car.

James Thompson will return to the British Touring Car Championship from the next round at Thruxton in two weeks, replacing Gordon Shedden in a Team Dynamics Honda Civic.

The 2002 and 2004 champion last raced in the BTCC for SEAT during a part-time campaign in 2006 and has since raced in the world championship for N.Technology.

Following N.Technology's withdrawal from the WTCC, Thompson tested for Dynamics during the winter while searching for a full-time drive.

"James's addition to the team is one I have personally hoped for since Matt [Neal] moved to VX Racing at the end of 2007," said team boss Steve Neal.

"James is truly one of the world's top touring car drivers and I am absolutely confident that he can take the fight to the opposition and provide us with a further step-up in performance."

Dynamics hopes to add a third car later in the season to allow Shedden to return to the championship alongside Thompson and David Pinkney.

"This change in our driver line-up has come about due to contractual commitments," Neal added. "Gordon has been part of Dynamics since 2006 and has been a great performer for us.

"We are currently negotiating further sponsorship to run a third car for him which is hoped will materialise sooner rather than later."

Good to hear Thompson's back, shame they're losing Shedden, he's actually not too bad behind the wheel of the Civic, better than Chilton was last year. Here's hoping it won't be long before that 3rd car is up & running

No doubt who I'll be rooting for this season, then. Thompson is a class act.

I still remember the last race meeting of his championship winning year - the atmosphere was soooo tense in the last race and he won it due to a point for fastest lap...

Be good to see if having another truly pro driver can take the fight to Gio.

I was warming to Shedden, too. Hope he can get funding for the third car.

Great news but shame he's replacing Sheddon who is a decent driver. Much better to get rid of the rich-also-ran known as Chilton (although I almost feel sorry for him now he's in that dog of a focus!).

such a shame for gordon, top bloke that he is, i had the honour of him taking me round donnington park in the 2 seater race car late last year, what an experience that was...and he was driving one handed due to his arm injury!!
