I am considering trading my Monaro for a VXR8. The auto version is attractive as I have never been a fan of my gearbox but it seems to be cheaper secondhand.
Any reasons for this?

There are too many autos looking for too few owners. Supply and demand.

They are not that popular if you want to up the power. If you dont want to go down that route then no problem.

Yeah if you are staying stock, or perhaps just intake and exhaust then no problem.
Otherwise prepare for aftermarket upgrades to the auto at some expense.

As already said, if you're not planning adding huge power then there's not too much wrong with the auto that some good transmission fluid and a cooler can't fix.

I had 385 rwhp running through mine and it sometimes got a little confused.

Some more info in this thread: www.hsv.org.uk/topic.asp?t=640085&f=69&h=27

I tried manual and auto demos......chose the auto.
Several on here have pointed out the short comings of auto boxes if
you try to put too much power through them.
TBH I'd probably only go as far as noose before some serious box work would be
needed.
How much power do you want?

I've got the auto vxr8.

Got the Wortec sport pack on it and is now getting the Cam Pack upgrade... includea Headers, sport cats and retune, expecting 380 rwhp.

I will be looking at the autobox cooler next...

oh also getting the coilovers... hopefully ready to pick up on the 21st coming wink
380rwhp in an auto would be healthy. What does it run at now?

Hi. If you decide to go manual mine is going up for sale in the next week or so. Red, 6.0L LS2, Wortec exhaust, 8000 miles. Not decided a price yet will do soon. Just a heads up. Keep an eye on the classified's or PM me if interested.

Ultimately I would like to Supercharge to about 550 ish HP. What can an auto box handle?

Ultimately if you are already thinking like that......you have the bug and will be mostly needing a manual good sir! It is entirely dependant on power requirements for the future. I have a manual VXR8 and have driven an auto for a few months and I personally prefer the manual, but as I said it really comes down to the power you are going to want to put down.

I agree supercharger = manual.

However you may note a 400 mile LS3 in the classifieds in auto form for £24k which is a bargain IMO.
The LS3 should be close to LS2 and small cam performance with its much better heads etc.

my younger brothers got a VE SS with a gen tt twin screw kit, he's run a 10.90 @ 130 odd mph..stock auto & drive-train with a set of 235 MT Radials.
his thinking is, if it blows it blows then he'll worry about an upgrade, untill then...happy days.
as I've always said, if it's gonna blow..it's gonna blow, be prepared.

p.s. manual boxes aren't infallible, they break too.

But twin screw I take it you mean an Eaton type PD as I didn`t think they did one.

If they do then whats the spec as they would be the first to offer one for the Monaro.
