Afternoon chaps,

Have been lurking for a while in the AM forum as i'm looking to make the move from a 911 to a v8v. Have had my 911 for the last 6 years and have enjoyed every minute of it, but feel now is the time to upgrade to something a little classier.

Am trying to get fully up to speed knowledge wise before falling into the lap of the dealers and have a couple of questions.

1, What is the difference in MY06 vs MY07? As far as i can tell it is simply an upgraded alarm and new seats?

2, Are there any mechanical issues in particular I should be aware of in either MY?

3, I have read a lot on this forum about hesitation under moderate acceleration for a number of you guys. Sorry to hear that. Would anyone hazard a guess as to what percentage of cars this has affected and how i could potentially spot such a problem when test driving?

I think that's it for now but any other pointers very gratefully accepted.

Take care guys and i look forward to joining the club asap!

I can't answer your questions directly but a search here or on the AM Owners Club should give you the information you're after. I chose an 07 partly because of the seats and door LEDs (I'm shallow like that) but it was also the right spec and colour at the right time and price for me.

Bear in mind that an MY06 car will probably be out of factory warranty now, so build that in to any calculations. Having said that, I'd expect everything to have been sorted in a 3 year old car. There was a very active discussion on this a few months ago.

Hope you enjoy it when you take the plunge smile

I'm in a similar position to you, and have read most AMV8 threads over the past couple of years, which has led me to write a list of frequently seen issues on MY06 cars (and maybe beyond)?

1 Gearbox - cold changing (revised linkage and gear oil to cure it)
2 Batteries can discharge quickly on some cars.
3 Oil pressure relief valve can groan on start up.
4 Front crank case can leak oil.
5 Doors locking using the fob.
6 Boot hatch chucks water into the car when its wet.
7 Headlights mist up.
8 squeaky belts
9 squeaky brakes
10 windows dont come down on door open
11 door handle does not return to flush
12 chipping on rear wheel arches

Having listed these, it won't stop me buying one!

If you can stretch to a 4.7, I'd heavily recommend it.

Might put it on after A View To A Kill has finished!

I've watched Uncle Buck and Risky Business over the past few days, so don't see why I shouldn't stop with the classics! laugh
