Thinking of a change or car, again, note to self, stop changing cars!
Anyway, would i regret it changing from my 05 530d to a 07/08 gti golf
I have spotted a nice 08 dsg, black, leather .....
I havent actually driven one yet, which obviously i would need to do.
But fancy a change and am finding it hard to come up with something
Find the bmw not very town friendly which most of my driving is now.
Must have room for the new bambino in the back, so no TT, cayman etc etc

I was looking at E60 530d's and went to buy an 05 plate last week. Left the dealers with a 2001 "partexed 10 mins beforehand" E39 M5 and 9k still in my pocket, with which I bought A GSXR. ANd havent stopped smiling since.

Dont buy the Diesel. Sorry that no help at all!

530d is very good - I drive them at work ...

Golf GTi is also very good ... and I own one.

RWD v FWD ... RWD BMW wins - the diesel in the 530d is superb if mated to the auto box. I personally hate FWD but love my Golf (if that makes sense). BMW will put the power down better more often. Power wise they both feel the same but do it differently.

I prefer auto BMW to DSG Golf. DSG is good but so is BMW's auto.

Size wise the BMW inside is about the same as the Golf but unless you have a 530d touring the Golf is more practical.

Neither is a bad car. It is a case of try and you may love! I would not buy a 530d as they are too big for what I need ... but that engine in a 3 series is incredible. I also can't believe I am saying that about a diesel !!

You have a good car. The Golf is tried and tested and had good residuals. Expect 28-32mpg from the Golf. I don't find the 530d particularly economical but then it is 7 secs to 60 biggrin

Sorry I don't really come down for one or the other but that is because both are excellent .....

Thanks for the reply.
Just fancy a change and am recking my head to come up with something.
Have been thinking about a GTi and possibly a 335i but only like the coupe in them and dont
know how practical it would be with a baby, but cant be that bad , lol.
Also dont seem that easy to find one with the right spec / colour etc

The BMW 530D is at a completely different level to the Golf. How can you compare the two!

Also if you have the 19" wheels on the 535D you have to think about the running costs .. I just replaced my rear tyres at £260 each

I'd say a 335i is on a different level to a Golf GTi though. Quicker and much more of a drivers tool. More expensive as well, to buy and run.
