VXR400 Top End?
Discussion
So then, I'm off to vmax soon
My question is, what do we think the top end is for a standard 6L Monaro VXR? I think the runway is ~ 2 miles? Or is it a 1.6 mile straight with a high-speed corner before-hand? Will I be getting into 6th gear? What speed is redline in 5th?
Ooh, the excitement!

Yes it will be a great day, Looking forward to see what the R8 will do without the limiter....From what i've read and seen I think there is a third gear corner before the straight but i'm sure Jez or Roger can enlighten us noobs

Look forward to seeing your beast unleashed!

You`ll find the car will be pulling hard in 5th at between 160 and 170 depending on conditions.
You`ll get a quarter mile sprint in prior to the first corner, take that in 3rd despite being at about 40-50mph entry speed as you really dont want to snatch 3rd mid corner.
Exit speed 90mph drifting to the left then you are just a passenger. If the winds from the left watch out for the crosswind as you exit the tree end (Half track) then on to the timing beams.
If you have std brakes you will come away with AP`s top of your to do list....I did....be gentle with them and use the whole run off area.
Lastly don`t put your handbrake on when you stop.
Blimey writing this has got me all excited......I`m off for a lie down...

Jez, if yours is finished and mine is working as it should, I wouldn't mind giving it a go?
Mine won`t be....
Prepping Mental Betty for the day
You are too late for this one mate the entry`s closed, but you gotta put it on your list of things to do.
If there is enough general interest I will try to do an HSV Brunters Day in the near future.

Cheers for all the info! Unable to stretch to APs just yet and would need to make sure they're fit for a daily driver. What I have done last week however was fit new discs and uprated pads. Was lucky enough to be able to get discs off someone who didn't know their worth - £300 for 4!
Do as Jezz says, he has the most experiance at it and is as mechanically unsympathetic as they come once the cars warmed up and the track becones...
ie when he says nail it in 5th and forget 6th Id do it as he knows what he is talking about. Remember the engine rev limiter is there to be used so dont be scared like I was for all but the last run I did.
All id add is make sure you have bleed the brakes (very important without AP's!!), change the engine oil, clean filter and generally check the car over - tires etc. And for god sake dont try to match the braking and turn off points the Porker boys use! you wont make it so use allllllll the runway to stop.
Cant see why you would not get mid 160's really and remember your speedo stops reading just over 160 so ignore it.
BTW - Ive done nearly 220mph in under half a mile from a standing start so come and chat if you want to go really fast it was on a bike mind

You will also get better performance out of half life tyres. New will slow you down.
And as Roger says you`ll need satnav to see how you are doing, although there is a speed display at the top end you`ll probably be too busy to read it your first few runs.

Sounds a really good day would love to have a go at one! HSV only day would be a very good idea!
HSV Day would be cool, but the idea of mixing it up and standing proud, shocking a few of the more exotic drives in my vauxhall will be nice...

Im easy either way both would be great, always remember seeing Vmax on one of the car programmes years ago and have always wanted to do it but never had a car to do it in!
