I nearly got killed there tonight. Grrrrrrrrrr.

Heading West, I moved over to right hand lane to let a car out of the Kingswells road who was turning left. I indicated for a couple of seconds before I moved over then cancelled the indicators once I was in the right hand lane.

fking corsa pulls out of the central gap bit (coming from the Dyce road turning right) about 20 yards in front of me. I'm doing 60-ish.

It was bloody close, if you see two huge skid marks (and one on the seat of my shogun) you'll know it was me. I reckon I got within a foot of the corsa with the shogun on it's nose.

Corsa barely noticed I was there! E

yikes

I reckon that Dyce exit should be left-hand turn only. It's a crappy wee road for the amount of traffic it gets anyway...

I totally agree, I have written heaps of e mails to the neSCAMp crowd about the camera there as well, spends far too long looking up the hill away from the junction, that junction should have been re engineered years ago, there is a roundabout just down the road so they should be turning left (even with an acceleration lane) and then do full circle and come back up and turn left, there is no need to be crossing a dual carriageway there! The one at the top of the hill is just as bad! Glad you missed the little dork!

Still find it funny that people complain about the speed... sorry safety camera there!

It is probably one the most justified cameras I've seen!

I'm glad I don't have to use that junction often.

I'm surpised that they haven't changed it with the amount of actual accidents that there have been there. I'm sure if you had a count of near misses it would be ridiculous.

You've got 2 carriageways of fast, heavy traffic and long queues of traffic waiting to get on and off at both sides. The queuing traffic on both sides gets frustrated at having to wait so long and end up taking any opportunity they can get. It's a recipe for disaster.

Glad you're ok.

Gary.

Sorry but you haven't read my post properly, I said I have complained about the camera facing AWAY from the junction clocking people going up the hill towards Blackburn, it doesn't even meet the criteria for being there if it is facing that way which the cynical might say proves they care not about the safety angle and it makes more money facing that way? I have no problem at all with it facing the junction slowing down the Abdn bound traffic,

Well the OP was doing 60 therefore under speed limit therefore completely safe

The corsa that pulled out in front of him was also under the speed limit so completely safe

In speedcamera land an accident could of never of happened as no one was speeding

Same thing happened to me there except it was a cyclist, he was seriously lucky and visibly shaken up, he was following a friend who'd crossed in front (also pushing his luck).

Agree with Marshall's junction being left turn only.
(perhaps we should suggest that it would improve the flow of traffic past their camera)

paperbag I admit it; I'm a regular right-turner at that junction, only because I need to get from Dyce to Garthdee in the space of 40 minutes 3 times a week and that route (into kingswells) is the most direct (and no, I've got no alternative). I hate that junction and glad I'll no longer need to be using it in about 2 weeks or so; the number of near misses I've seen on both sides of the road scare the crap out of me. I accepted very quickly that I'd rather wait the 5 minutes or so and wait for a decent space.

I stayed in Kingswells for 5 years and commuted to Inverurie, that junction was the quickest way, other than late at night, I NEVER used it. Just lethal, an accident waiting to happen, the differences in traffic speed just takes one small misjudgement and its tatties... honestly an accident a week wasnt unheard off. sometimes fatal/ serious injury.

There really needs to be a serious review of that junction, not retroactive again. I just hope it doesnt cost (more) lives...

Re: the NESCAMP camera location, I wonder how many accidents its recorded there in the name of safety? I have witnessed one VERY bad one, and just missed countless others over the years. Given the junctions still very dangerous status, it would be fair to say the camera is hardly an advert for safety.

There is probably more of a case for a 50 limit there than the section at Laurencekirk. It's frightening coming out of Aberdeen and moving over to let someone out from the left and experiencing exactly as the OP did. Either that or no junction across the carriageway. A flyover/underpass could probably be installed there as there is a fair volume of traffic using the junction in both directions that would build significantly to the airport roundabout congestion if the junction was closed.

50 reduces the risk but doesnt get away from the problem...
I do agree it would be easier to join moving traffic if it was slowed from 70 to 50 for this purpose, i back off at that point anyway on the anticipation someone may pull out in EITHER lane right in front of you.

But something is better than nothing.

Lefty could have had a nice RAC style trincket for the front of the shogun... go out and have a look wonder how many town cars are stuck to the front of that beast?

A couple of weeks ago an Artic went across from the Craibstone side & caused both Northbound lanes to stop dead while he went over, cue some crazy braking - Not sure what happened to the Southbound lanes but probably made them stop too.

Left turn only & block the gap would be the cheapest & safest option.

The excuse I got from NEscamP when I contacted them and asked about the government statement that cameras would not be used as a substitute for engineering works and enquired as to when the work might take place? The proposed Abdn bypass would eliminate that junction and the camera would then be removed! Priceless!
As mentioned earlier I also asked them why the camera was capable of being turned around to clock the vehicles going up the hill away from the junction as when it is pointing that way it doesn't actually meet the criteria for being there and suggested that they were not actually bothered about accidents at the junction by having the camera facing the wrong way - they don't like it up them!! laugh

I hate the Marshall Trailers junction, I've a number of near misses there!

I'm usally heading home country ward when a muppet in the middle pulls out into the right hand lane. Then the car coming from Kingswells, think well if he has gone it must be clear and pulls out straight front of me into the left lane? Where do I go but stand on the brakes....

The other junction at the top of the hill at Kirkhill forest can be a lethal, when your heading city-ward people again pull out into non exsistent gaps, or when heading county ward the number of lorries I seen trying to cross both carriageways to join the A96 torwards Aberdeen is scary, especially when your coming up the hill and there's a poorly lit trailer parked in the fast lane.
