Does anyone know (because its driving us mad) the name of the vegetable grown mainly for feeding Cows? I know it's an odd question but there's is or was a certain veg grown that apparently looks like a large swede that's fed to cows/cattle. We cant think of what its called. Does anyone know?
TIA

I don't understand the new format of the P&P so I'm not sure where to put it. This place has always been a wealth of general knowledge so i wouldn't have known where else to look.

I have a feeling it's manglewurzle that is just meant for cows, as it tastes good to them, but horrible to anything else.
the turnips, beet etc they get are all just the damaged stuff, so were never made with cows specifically in mind.

Probably sugarbeet as mentioned before. Sugar can be refined from it and was in the past before it became cheaper to import.

I thought Manglewurzel was made up, so I made up everything I just said.

Anyway, I can't see any details on cow fuel, but I did find out that cattle always come in twos, as it is a plurale tantum.

Nah, it's kohlrabi (you can boil it and eat it like a potato, but if sliced very thinly it reminds me of mooli)

To the people saying sugar beet, they're wrong that's mainly grown to be refined down to sugar.

Not many cows are fed on a single veg, they're either pasture fed or kept in a feedlot and fed a kind of muesli.

On the dairy farm I lived on, we fed them kale, turnip, alfalfa and silage (which is fermented grass)
