my 1st ferrari 308 or 348
Discussion
Most of the people who say don't buy a 348 are talking out of their arses
Depends on what you're after really. A 308 is a classic, both in looks and driving experience. The 348 is much more up to date, handles better and is quicker. But speed isn't everything - there are plenty of hot hatches now quicker than my 348, but I know which I'd rather have

Which 308 are you thinking about? GT4 or GtB/S??
Haven't driven a 348 but have with the 308/328. Depends on what you want? Old school driving sensations or more modern?
I really liked my GT4 and prefer it to the 308/328 GTB/S but is all down to taste. Teh older the car then the more issues you may have with rust and failures. All the older cars rust and in particular the pre 1984 when they started to put some form of glavanising into production cars, even those still rust!

The GT4 had 255 bhp allegedly not 277! Back in those days BHP were 'creative' although it is more likely to be about 230BHP in reality. The later 328's had 275 and that may be a bit closer to reality.
Compared to many modern 'hot hatch's' these cars are not seriously fast, but that isn't the point. In particuar with the old carb cars, it's the way they sound, the suddeness of the throttle response and the general feeling which is almost completley missing in say a Suburu 300+ FFFQ or whatever.Yes those cars are massivley mor capable in almost every respect, but in my view it is the way that you do it, not just how fast you do it! ( no sexual pun's intended)
The GT4 is a more neutral handling car than a 328 although only on modern tyres, but the 328 has more outright grip especially the heavily revised 1988+ abs models. They have very different feel and in my view the GT4 is nicer.( i am a dyed in the wool Bert one fan though!)

i have a budget of 25k and looking for my first ferrari ..
not sure to go for a 308 or 348..how do they compare?
im currently driving an alfa 3ltr gtv..appreciate any advice.
I was originally deciding between a 328 and a 348, but ultimatly chose a 348 as I wanted something that looked more modern. Although I still think the 308/328's are one of teh most beautiful cars ever made.not sure to go for a 308 or 348..how do they compare?

Drive both and decide which one you prefer.
The 348 will cost more to service and maintain with the engine having to be removed to do a cambelt change.
both cars are getting older, so things like suspension components, cooling systems made need renewing.
the 348 has a very good owners support structure.
either way......you'll end up with a great car.
if you need any help re the 348, fel free to email me.

There effing well should be Pete unless you've lost a bank of cylinders along the way! The F348 is still a 175mph car ... most "hot hatches", even if they could touch that would be restricted to 155 anyway these days
I am on my second 348. I also considered the looks and old school charm of a 308/328 when I bought my last one but in the end, I knew I couldn't live with the lesser performance, so went for another 348.
Great cars and considered as one of the last traditional raw Ferraris.
308 or 348 ? you need the Ferrari Test, please answer truthfully.....
If money was no object would you rather have ....
1) 246 gt Dino
2) 360 spyder or tin top
if you would rather have the 246 go for the 308 if you would rather have a 360 go for the 348. Easy. I went down the 246 route, it turned out to be a very tricky mistress, but still I miss her.

I must admit I don't know very much about these cars, but I would guess you should be looking at either a 328 or a 348 rather than a 308. The 328 looks very similar, but will probably be an all-round better car (mopre reliable, more modern etc). As for which to go for though, it's just personal preference really. Neither of them will seem that fast by today's standards, but as already said that isn't the point. Go test drive both and see what you think. not sure to go for a 308 or 348..how do they compare?
