Focus- chain cams and dual mass flywheels
Discussion
Hi, am looking for a replacement car for wife and Focus estate seems to be winning the poll at present but i think I need to avoid dual mass flywheels and go for timing chain rather than belt driven cam.
Can anyone advise which engine combinations fit this criteria?
Expect to be looking around a 2005/6 model around £5k
thanks

There aren't any solely chain driven engines in any Ford Focus. They are either belt or if its a 1.6 TDCI or 1.8 TDCI, they are both chain and belt. All MK2 Focus's have dual mass flywheels also. Dual Mass Flywheels will last a long time if they are used correctly. The trick is to not dump the clutch all the time and drive as smoothly as possible. The old MK1 Focus's however have solid flywheels.
hmmmm wife has a bit a habit of dumping the clutch
why a belt & chain?
looked at a petrol 1.6 today, the belt change "looked" easier than the 306HDi
need to do a bit of research, sales guy reconned that unless she was doing 15k miles per year petrol was a better bet. Petrol certainly cheaper at the pumps but what is the average mpg of a 1.6. Is a 1.6 underpowered? What is the road tax of a 1.6 and a 1.8 and a TDCi? If anyone has any definite answers then please let me know in the meanwhile its the Autotrade website and Honest John I guess.
Cheers
