Butterfly World
Discussion
These are from my first proper go at some macro photography. I only had the kit lens and the camera's macro setting to help me so aren't even close to the quality of some on here.
The reason I haven't stuck these in the random photos thread is because I would like some proper feedback on them as I realised I quite like getting up close to such interesting beasties but want to know how I can improve. I know the best thing to do would be to get a better lens but any suggestions on technique would be greatfully received. Thank you
.

Bit annoyed that the head isn't in focus in this one:

Not the best shot in the world but there's something about it that I quite like:

Thanks!
It's Edinburgh Butterfly World, just off the City Bypass. Website.
If you are near then it is definitely worth a visit. With the right kit it would be a great place to go for a bit of practice beacuse the place is full of the things.
Bugger. I've got a nice, shiny Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro and ringflash to play with, but they and I are in Surrey, so not exactly local! It's Edinburgh Butterfly World, just off the City Bypass. Website.

London Zoo has a butterfly house where you just go in and they are flying around so no glass/cage in the way. They also have "walk through" enclosures with birds, monkeys etc.. Makes for a nice day out.

ETA - Some good photos there Craig. Very good with a kit lens.
