Stopped of at Le-mans on Sat, returning from parents house just south of le-mans.
1 x Coffee and 1 x Hot Latte a nice round figure of 10.50 euro's. Even the Supermarkets seemed expensive due to the exchange rate.

When we went skiing in January my wife got stung for €14.00 for two coffees !! Now admittedly it was up near the top of a mountain, but even so, that's just stupidly expensive...

But €10.50 for two coffees at more reasonable altitudes does seem a little excessive. I can't imagine your average French person thinking that's reasonable.

We didn't find supermarket shopping *too* unreasonable, even when we were at damn near parity with the Euro, but I did notice that petrol prices fluctuate very quickly over there when there's a shift in the €:$ FX rate - almost instantaneous in fact.

Without sounding too cheap, I lunched with a fellow "Le Manster" today and we discussed taking a car-load of food and booze with us due to the crippling exchange rate.

I think the French will soon be doing "booze cruises" to Dover and surrounds to take advantage of the (in their case) favourable exchange rate.

Having said that, the € will probably crash later this year and we will be back to £1 to €2 and we will all be raving about how cheap France is again.

beer is still cheaper there, it will be less then EUR 10 a crate, that is less then you can get it for here, and even if it is a tad more it will not be worth the extra petrol and the pain of filling a car with food and drink!

Skiing in France earlier this year, we were ripped off for £17.00 for 1 beer and a plate of chips (up the mountain) £9.00 for the beer and £8.00 for the chips. If that's not taking the p*ss I dont know what is.

BTW that isnt a miss-print, I do mean £'s not euros.

4 hot dogs and 4 beers outside the Stade De France in March cost me £54
