The sports section is nearly all football.

Most non-football posts will be off the page within days, never to be seen again.

Can we have a Football room, thus allowing Sports to be for all other sports (rugby, hockey, tennis etc. and so on....).

thanks.

The sports forum currently has topics from the last 3 days on it's first page, so I don't think it would benefit from the football topics being removed as this could make it very slow moving. We will keep an eye on it though and if it does become overrun by football topics then we will split it up.

It's virtually all football. There is a thread for every team and anything else gets lost in there.

Non football forum might be a bit slow at first, but at the moment it is almost unusable. The football forum would also benefit by not having anything else in the way.

[I remember when all this were fields] Ted had it right - any mention of football got the thread locked and a the poster banned. [/I remember when all this were fields]

There would be more posts about non-football topics if people didn't think it'd all be football.

Don't get me wrong, I like footy but I play hockey but put a thread in once and no reply and off the page after not long. If you're into other sports you don't even bother looking as you know it will be footy.

Besides, I think other sports would command more traffic than "Scale Models" or "Lotus in the USA".

On that note, why isn't JapChat split into toyota/lexus, nissan etc. Surely there'd be more traffic than in the Scimitar room!!!

Fair point. Could you not have a cooling off period for the football forum for new members the same as applies to the lounge?

IMO we ought to have a cooling period of the entire site for members who can't be bothered to fill in the my cars/garage section of their profile.

There's a few individuals who drift into the football threads from time to time with zero-ish posts and having just joined, and are blatantly fanboys on the wind up. Kind of pisses me off really. It's nice to have sensible footy discussions with PHers instead of bellends.

At first the thought of a footy forum seems really bad, but if it was limited access with say, 100 posts, 3 months on PH and a filled in car profile before you can post, then that would be a good thing imo.

Actually on second thoughts, I would apply the above criteria to the sports forum and keep the forum as is, as I am against further dilution of fora in general.

Have to say I tend not to bother looking in Sports anymore as I think it will be all football.

It's not though. Plenty of other sports are popular - rugby, tennis, boxing to name but three.

Hmmm, look at the first page though:

football
football
running
football
football
rugby
football
football
MMA
football
football
rugby

I know what you're saying but it's still mainly football.

True but it's a busy part of the season. It all disappears in the summer months.

For a couple of months. Then it will be back again.

Splitting the forum means it can be ignored all year round.

Well yes. But let's extend that argument shall we. You have no desire to read footy stuff. What about people who hate rugby? Or tennis? Etc? Do you want a separate forum for each?

With other forums, when one topic is overwhelming then a sub forum normally breaks out. Lets face it, the "sports" forum is a football one with the odd non-football topic. We don't need separate ones for rubgy/tennis/hockey/cricket etc. as they won't individually overwhelm the forum like football does. This has been accepted to a degree what with the teamX thread for each club.

I understand some of the arguments surrounding the footy "wars" creeping in, although I don't think it'd be that bad, if a problem at all. Anyway, there are ways around this though (maybe a minimum post count, age etc.).
