Well this is it. After just over 2 years building, the last 2 months of which have seen some frantic activity in order to get in before IVA, its nearly time for SVA test. This Thursday to be precise 10 AM
Im as finished as I feel I can be without some expensive kit or MOT test which I cant organise before thursday as I cant get the time off work. The tracking feels about right, The only things I cant check properly are emissions and noise but I dont think noise will be an issue.
Will be driving to the test so if you happen to be anywhere between leicester and Birmingham between 8 am and 10 AM and happen to see a bright orange Sprint family followed by a dark grey Fusion (wifes car used as support vehicle) give me a toot and a wave and wish me luck.
Will have a white helmet on as no screen.
Will see some of you at stoneleigh no doubt but I dont think Tango will make it even if I do get a first time pass, I think getting it registered in 2 weeks would be rather optimistic as is a first time pass.
Going to the test expecting a fail, hoping for less than a sheet of fail points but secretly hoping for a pass.

Don't forget to take your complete tool kit with you along with loads of cable ties, gaffer tape, foam rubber, sticky back foam tape, rubber edge strip, spiral wrap, self amalgamating tape etc.
If you get a whole list then you will come away and fix it but a few niggles can often be done on the spot if you have the gear.

Having just passed the SVA at Birmingham ( restest last Friday) I would suggest that you should definitely expect to fail.
Having built one Cobra that passed SVA first time a few years ago, I used that experience to build a second almost identical Cobra that failed first time and two of the failure points weren't even included in the SVA manual.
The way I see it is that the IVA has brought loads of cars out of garages to be tested. This means that in the short term the testers are busy but after the SVA is replaced by the IVA the number of tests required will be minimal, at least initially.
This means that the SVA/ IVA testers will have nothing to do for a couple of months, possible redundancy beckons, unless they can generate a bit of work for themselves..........eg Retests, .......which is why when I had my original SVA test in early April I was told that out of twenty cars tested that week, none had passed first time.
Either everyone has suddenly got crap at building cars or the testers had decided to generate some more work for themselves to keep them in employment.
My retest btw took 4 minutes...........
I'm presently now building a third Cobra that will be down for an IVA next year ( hopefully) so I'm hoping the regime will have settled down to a level playing field by then.
Cheers,
Tony
