Tourous Tourbillon

There are numerous far-eastern based tourbillon "brands" - in fact if you contact the makers and agree to buy a certain quantity you can have any name/brand you like put on it.
Given that established brand tourbillons are way beyond the means of all but the very wealthiest enthusiasts, they offer a good chance to own one at achievable cost. The one thing I am not sure of is their genuine quality however.
A final point - Poljot produce a beautiful tourbillon that sells for around 4k IIRC.

ETA I assume this is it?

In which case I wouldn't go near it for that price. Similar can be had for much less, and as I said above, a proper Poljot in gold for the same.
Not only that, the movement on the Tourous doesn't even look like a genuine tourbillon.

That's the Chinese tourbillon movement that made a big splash at the Swiss watch fairs 5 years or so ago. Nobody thought the Chinese would be able to design their own tourbillon, but they did. And it's being series produced, I hesitate to say 'mass produced' because tourbillons are a bit tricky and they don't make *that* many of them, but instead of trying to create a 'premium' Chinese brand, the manufacturers are selling them to anyone who wants to resell them.
This of course has led to many one-offs, including the British Horological Institute anniversary watch and the Tourous branded watches. Of course, as you'd expect, the movement is also being used in high-end fakes.
It's definitely a real tourbillon, only snobbery really diminishes its value.
AlexKP - I'm rather interested in that Poljot tourbillon - do you have a link etc. ? I didn't know Poljot made their own tourbillon movements...

Here you go:

But you know what? After looking at those chinese ones, I think this Poljot is just one of them with the Poljot name on it...
Just shows how careful you have to be with buying this kind of watch.

I have huge admiration for the hopeless optimism behind the decision to put that Patek watch on sale with a "buy it now" button for £945,000. Presumably they'd be picking up the 2% paypal charges on that, would they?

I know! Just don't be tempted to click...
(It is also an insane price for a watch).
ebay has some amazing (and amazingly expensive) watches for sale though. I suspect like cars, most deals are done not through the site though.
