Many know this already and I am not telling people to suck eggs, BUT this weekend I was a victim of an increase burglary.

I NORMALY double lock my front door but after coming home from being out on the lash on Friday Night and on this occasion I forgot. I got in about 1:am and by the time I woke up in the morning someone had been in my house stole my Wallet,Laptop, wife's purse, Chloe hand bag along with my wife's Porsche Cayenne.

I was lucky that they left my Murci but the point being when the Police came the said that they used to get about 4 a day but know they are getting 15 A DAY yep 15 a DAY just in my area alone.

The thing with the PVC door is the thief can tell from the outside if your door is double locked or knot ! if its not the thief only has to jimmy the door open or (in my case) put something through the letter box to push the handle down and as the handles are in the same place either side they can fabricate something on there side of the door then put it through the letter box and hey presto.

I am in Essex and this team are hitting the area hard and it's not just sports or super-cars so please be vigilant and ALLWAYS DOUBLE LOCK YOUR PVC DOOR... as I said I do normally double lock but on THIS occasion didn't and it has cost me...so that ONE time you forget can have serious consequences.

A desciption of the Car, quite unique

2003 Porsche Cayenne BLACK
FULL Black tinted windows (not just the rears like most)
20" Turbo Alloy Wheels
What makes this very unique is the rear lights are also Tinted Black
There is also a dent on the rear offside Bumper (quite notisable)
The plate was AJ03 UFK although this may have been changed and could be sitting down someone side street as they nick them
then park them up for a couple of days in case of traker then retun and off you go !!! so anyone notice a Cayenne turn up down there road please PM me smile

There was a reported sighting in South Woodford on an 08 Plate of course conisures will no the the difference between an 03 and an 08 car ... but hey please keep an eye out !!

Some advice from me. Between a third and 50% of burglaries occur because of insecurities: unlocked doors, open windows, etc. Things to do:

- If you can lock your doors securely, do it. Even if someone 'is in' you should lock your doors.

- Consider fitting better quality doors and locks. If you are unsure about what a 'good' door/lock is (i.e. with multiple locks that can't be bumped or similar like a lot of PVC jobs) go visit a master locksmith.

- Set your burglar alarm when you go to sleep (presuming that it is zonal). If you don't have one, consider fititng one. If you think your current one is inadequate, consider fitting a better one. Burglars are deterred by burglar alarms - the decrease in risk is around 50%.

- Consider fitting security lights to the outside of your property.

- Install light timers for lights inside your property to make it appear that you are in.

- Consider better fencing around your property to make it a challenge for people to get round the rear. Secure your gates properly. Don't leave bins next to walls, etc.

- Don't leave signs of wealth in the rubbish: packaging from expensive retailers, boxes for a new plasma telly, etc.

- Do not place your keys of any type within view of any windows/letterboxes/etc. Do not place them in a place that one would commonly find them, i.e. hall table.

- Property mark your valuables and register them. Record the serial numbers of your property. You can mark with UV pens or with something a bit more hi-tech like SmartWater. Register your property on the National Property Register (immobilise.com) so that if it is stolen/recovered it can be traced back to you.

And finally, if you drive a nice car, always lock your doors when you are travelling. Carjacking does happen but can be prevented simply by locking them out. A great deal of these people are opportunists - once the moment has passed they want to run. This isn't always the case but like most things you are narrowing the odds in your favour.

Stay safe everyone...

Which, on the contrary is bad advice! If you value your liberty.....

Sorry to hear of this SirMark. So what did your insurance company say? Most stipulate a certain quality of lock and that it should be locked at night to be covered?

Since you posted about this already I assume there is no problem in me asking this. If there is then I can remove my post (but you'd better edit yours!!!).
