Hi all,

Does anyone have a wooden garage and what do you think of it? I am about to replace the old concrete garage I have and am thinking a wooden one might look a bit nicer than the concrete or metal ones most places sell.

Cheers,
James

They certainly look nicer - the only issue is preserving the wood.

I'm a fan of cedar shingles - I'd be tempted to nail them on the outside and then it'll last untouched for decades. However they're not suitable for shallowish roofs, so I'd suggest the usual roofing felt for that, preferably two layers.

I had one when I bought a house over 10 years ago, it was a terrible wasp magnet, I'd have a new bloody nest in there weekly.

I'm swithering at the moment over a wooden garage or a concrete garage.
The quote for both at 12ft x 30ft are roughly the same but I cant be arsed with the painting.

I have a few friends with the concrete and they dont have any bother. Its just that its maintenance free.

I'd have thought that most timber garages now days would come pre-treated with preservative.

Go for a concrete one if you're happy to have a wet car though. The condensation is a killer.
The house I rented had a concrete one and half my tools went rusty.

Shouldn't this be in the Health Matters forum?
