After lots of playing about I now have a DL1 that Records

RPM
Throttle Position
Engine Temp
Radiator Temp
Air Temp
Oil Temp
Oil Pressure
Ignition angle
Coil Time
Fuel Time
Lambda Readings

As well as all the Standard DL1 stuff.

Plus I have the Dash2 Linked up, so can set displays or Alarms on any of the above.

I've just ordered the ecu link so I may give you a bell on set up

You need a steering angle sensor as well - this is a must for driver/chassis analysis.

Well I've still got another 9 spare inputs. It's all work in progress.

Also re the ECU link, it's not in the manual but you either need to use the PC lead supplier by Emerald in the link, or do what I did and re-wire the conector of the interface.

Cool, sounds like you're going to be the DL1 demonstrator car! Just need to get you some coast down data now!

Yeah I spoke to lorne at Rt today and he mentioned that..

how much fiddling did it take to to get it all to work

I´m thinking off going the techy route and maybe getting a lap timer for the car. I almost had an incident in testing on Friday trying to reset the second hand on my watch. wink

I tried that method last year John and its simply too fiddly. I changed to an egg timer. That way its a quick flick to spin it round as you pass the start/finish line. Its much more user friendly. pah - all this technology, makes my brain ache.

Once I knew about the wiring it's all quite easy.
There still a small bug, that RT are trying to sort, in that the Dash seems to at 0.9 to some of the values. so temp shows 85.9 when its 85 and 90.9 when its 90 etc.

The oil Temp and Pressure are from a SPA design sensor set, with a tap to the DL1.
Lambda is Via a LC1

I changed the log on/off on the dash to menu + down so you can't turn off the logger by mistake.

If you have the Dash 2/3 you program alarms so it only displays data if it's in a pre-set range. so you would only see engine temp if it went above 95 etc. you can also program one of the shift lights to come on if there is an alarm. this way even though you have a lot of data, you don't have to look unless a light comes on.

If you have a ECU that can be linked then for the price of the interface sub £100 it well worth it.

If anyone else did go this route it would be interesting to compare throttle response with someone else, as I have a remote throttle body.

I've only got the ecu and the dl1, still got the stack dash, with randomly working lap timer..

I'm sure Stack use the same Sensors as SPA DESIGN, so could quite easily be converted, Takes about 5-15 mins per sensor.
If not you can still log the data, to view at a later time.

Most things already go through the ecu already so no probs there. I think there is only oil pressure / temp that i dont feed into the ecu.

just talking to the ecu

I should get

RPM
Water temp
air temp
TPS
ignition advance
injector setting
igintion setting.

and I log lambda directly to the logger already..

Yes you will get all of the above from the ECU plus the AUX Temp sensor if used. you could link up the oil temp sensor, and then you could have oil cooler fans on the AUX relay trigger.

I'm using the AUX Sensor for the Radiator temp. and control the 2nd fan on this, as a backup.

Join the Cue.
Still waiting for a slot from Jool's but may not be worth it with the current engine.
May wait till I sort a new race engine.
Going to see if I can map myself at Brands. I've got a new safe ignition map from Nick. so just got to do fuel.

do you know anyone else with your engine and ECU, as you could use there map, just tweak some of the extremes ignition timing, so you have a safe map. (make sure your base is right and also it was mapped with the correct base set-correctly. (I know Emerald don't always check this, and just map out any error)
Fuel you can use adaptive mapping and let the ECU set this up itself.

Wouldnt you need to make sure they had the same injectors if you got a map from someone else.. as it works on duration, so if the injectors flow more you'll run rich and visa versa...

Kevan - what engine are you running? I've asked my mapping guys if they do Emerald - if they say yes I'll pass on details.
