Sagaris gears crunching slightly

As the post says really! Within the last week my sag has started to crunch the gears slightly but only in 3rd and 5th gear! It doesn't do it all of the time though! The car is on its original clutch and has covered around 15k miles, Does it sound like the clutch is on the way out or could it be something else.
If it is the clutch, how much are they approx fitted!

When it happened to mine it turned out to be worn synchro.

Is 1st difficult to engage as well (from absolute stand still?)

I`d say your clutch is going, if its the slave cylinder I beleive they go fairly quickly (i.e. once you notice something is wrong, you can`t get it in gear)

There is a bolt behind the clutch pedal that limits its travel, you might want to take this out - it may give you a few more miles before getting it changed (mine lasted a good while but it only affect 1st and reverse.. I would engage reverse after stopping the engine and 1st would go in without a fuss (i.e. at lights) if I was breaking to a stop - around about 2mph..)

Was a gearbox rebuild at Power I'm afraid - couple of grand, together with a new clutch while they were at it.

Sounds like the 5th gear synchro, does it graunch into 3rd/5th gear at anything over 3k revs? the T5 dogbox is notorious for this, worst case scenario is a new clutch at approx £700 or a gearbox rebuild for less at Tvr Power, had this same problem on my Tamora, have you a warranty?

clutch probably ...not helped by dodgy slave cylinder which seems to help accelerate wear on the cluth

had both done at 18K and its been perfect since....

...oh get them to check and adjust the gear linkage too ...that can come loose and give similar symptoms

Thanks for the reply's guys, It only seems to happen in 3rd and 5th! Even if the revs are really low!
My gut feeling is that its the clutch, The car already has a cr box in it that was fitted approx 16 months ago! So hopefully it aint that.
PS who bought your sag phoaar! somebody has got a lovely car in an amazing colour.

I am pretty sure it is the clutch, mine was similiar at 19k so I had it replaced. Racing Green said it may have been okay for another year (I only do 5k per year) but the problem is you start putting wear on other components when it gets crunchy and sticky so when you do get around to eventually replacing the clutch (the consensus is they only last till about 20k anyway) you have worn out other parts of the gearbox etc etc. When you replace the clutch you might as well do the slave cylinder and why not get a lightened flywheel form RG - I put one on mine and it seems to pick up faster.

Thanks Mr Sagoo - my Sag has been sold to another PH'er whom is a very lucky man and I am sure he will be on here soon to say hello. I am glad it has gone to an enthusiast, I have bought an RS4 and it doesn't have a patch on the Sag in terms of pace or presence but maybe one day I will be back !

I had to go to the US for a week, and in the three days of delay it was sold

I know this is a bit obvious, but you are fully depressing the clutch pedal right to the floor when changing?

When I got my Sag I complained of a graunchy box and RG couldn't find anything wrong with it until we both realised I wasn't pushing the clutch in all the way.

In my defence, my Corrado only needs a quarter of its pedal travel to disengage the clutch, and I was pushing the Sagaris' pedal down through three quarters of its travel which appeared to be sufficient. But it seems it needs 100% of its travel for some reason, apparently.
