Forza Newbie- this decal game...how!!!
Discussion
Hi guys, apologies if this has been covered previously.
I've just got online and am loving it. What I'm not liking however, is how utterly shi-ite my cars look.
I cannot for the life of me work out how to start designing a new graphic. I've done the decal painter with the preset stripes etc but how are you supposed to progress from there?
Any help would be welcome. I have a B700 Clio which I want to paint Renault colours but so far looks like a toddlers trundle car!!
Whilst I'm here, if anybody is on later and wants to show me how it's done , my tag is Rolling moss
Cheers

Thanks, I'll have a go tonight and see what I come up with
How do people get pictures on there( like the listerine from mid 90's M3's etc)
I cant really help with race livery's as i just dont have the eye, but i can paint 'Art' or Cartoon stuff. How do people get pictures on there( like the listerine from mid 90's M3's etc)
One of Mine

I started following a tutorial like this one:
http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/21...
But the basic answer is there are no shortcuts, The Battle of the Plants car (above) took me over 30 hours, It takes time to learn all the shapes and what you can do with them, and if you havent got a artist eye its even harder.. I fact the fact it is so hard it what makes it worth while and even more epic.
Try following this basic tutorial..

And have a look at some of the cars I posted in this thread:
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
The Discovery HD and the Little Big Plant car are two of the best paints out there (artist named 'Mimic') i look at them i even i find it hard to see how they are not a jpeg placed on the car and i have them in my garage!

Hi Jonesey,
Start with basic stuff, like logos or Registration plates. Most of these can be broken down to basic shapes (the PistonHead smiley is a good example of this)
Start with a nice big canvas (I use the roof of a MINI mostly).
Draw in as big a scale as you can, this can be scaled down later if necessary. It will also minimize any errors.
Have reference pictures close by, I used to copy photos to my phone, and kept that next to me on the couch while I doodled.
Don't be afraid of trial and error, a lot of this stuff takes practice.
Don't try to design a whole skin in one go, get the details right, and the rest will fall into place.
I did this R5T a while ago, mostly using the in-game lettering, playing around with stretch and skew to get a different style.

Start with something simple... i like doing real life cars but special editions... like say.. a TT sport... paint it red, then get some similar wheels, paint them black and paint the roof black...
Bobs your uncle... you have a custom paint job and a smart looking car.
This is how i started and it gives you an idea of how the whole paint shop works.. im no expert like JH but tbh im not into art as such i prefer to re-create race cars etc.. which is generally easier!!

Good advice... i always have my laptop on and google imagnes on the screen of the paint job i want to re-create... Start with basic stuff, like logos or Registration plates. Most of these can be broken down to basic shapes (the PistonHead smiley is a good example of this)

Keep your eye on the AH for logo cars, they help massively when it comes to designing a car. Not every logo on them is a good one, but, you can lift the ones you want and then use them accordingly and you don't have to arse about designing them yourself, unless of course you want a logo you don't have.
I like to make my own racing inspired designs, as it's easier than anything else and you get exactly what you want;
