Did the Evo triangle yesterday and met these guys
http://www.drivers-republic.com/
They were doing some filming for the website with a Mercedes SL65 AMG Black Series and a Porsche 997 GT2.
There should have been a Ferrari 599 but the guy said that there was a problem with it at the last minute.
They looked and sounded fantastic. I first got sight of them coming in the opposite direction to me in a 'cough' spirited close tandem speed 'cough'
I had to look twice to convince myself what I'd just seen and by that time they had gone from sight.
As I returned the other way (anti clockwise) I found them and had a chat. Exceptionally friendly people only to happy to answer questions
"have a sit in it if you like" "would you like to see the engine" Me little boy in a sweet shop!
One of them told me he used to work for Evo when it first started.

£250k motor

The SL65 AMG Black Series engine is a V12 with twin turbos and 661bhp

My VX meets mighty super car!

Very nice.

I assume the Evo bloke was either Richard Meaden or Jethro Bovington.

That Merc looks pure Evil!

Is this Drivers Republic thing any good then? How come Meaden left Evo?

Definitely Richard Meaden in the background. Top bloke! Don't know if Chris Harris was there, but met him out at the Nurburgring and a nicer and easier chap to talk to about all things automotive, you won't find.

Sorry to Hijack, but... That 911 is the Porsche press car. My BiL is some bigwig at Porsche Reading, he took me round there one weekend, and there was 911GB and 911GUL sitting right there, lovely. I don't know if I believe it, but according to BiL, when the car comes back from a photo shoot etc, they put it back to TOTAL factory spec. Respray if needed, if a wheel is kerbed, it gets a new one, no expense spared. It's another world in there.

They also had the Carrera GT Lewis Hamilton's dad spanked.Thought I had a photo but it's on the phone I've just sent to Mazuma...

911GB has been used on loads of Porsches in the press, not just the one you've seen.

Yeah, it's the reg for the current press car, only one car has that registration at a time wink But it also happens to be that car as well - as far as a they look identical, and it was only about 6 months ago.

yes

They really are very good. Despite all the Evo bashing that goes on here I think the magazine's still one of the best out there, but the content on DR trumps it I reckon. Still not 100% convinced about the online stuff though - I'd gladly pay for a hardcopy.
