Firstly.. hi guys.. how's it going ?
secondly..
do either of you have any laptimes from Snetterton or Brands Indy with you driving the SR3s ?
just a passing interest.. but the Chimaera is up for sale, and I'm musing over wether to buy a serious track toy.
Cheers

Den,
The Ultima needs some work before I can start thinking about track times as it got a little hot after only 3 laps at Snett! It was abotu 85 degs ambient though.
The SR3s make up time in the corners and having slicks/Avons helps, that said, the Ultima doesn't so much accelerate down the straight as go back in time
It's no slouch through the corners either although, there's a fair bit of understeer to be dialled out!
No times yet, but after some winter work it should be a force to be reckoned with

I don't think you can really compare an SR3 with the road-based Ultima on a track, no matter the power - the aerodynamics, grip and lack of weight mean it's on a different level. Even running well used road legal Dunlop R's only knocks a few mph off cornering speeds (e.g. still 120+ down Craner curves). The only "cars" which appear to come close on trackdays are well driven track prepped GT3s, and even then it's the power dominating down the straights. Almost everything else just lumbers around the bends. As an SR3 amateur, I have no problem hauling in R500's on slicks around corners. A more experienced Radical driver would take it to a different level though - it takes time adjusting to extreme trail braking!
As a track day car, I'm not so sure though. Sure, the ridiculous corner speed is exhilarating, but you inevitably never have clear laps on a track day, and following another car which is obviously on the limit while you're just pootling can get boring.
Plan for next year - some serious tuition alternating with playing on crap tyres. Hopefully it might rain one day too - every day I did was dry this year!

PS Trailering is tedious, though if you're going to trailer at all you may as well go the whole hog!

Perhaps next year we should swap cars; you can experience the exhiliration of cornering on the limit, and I'll have a go at scary downforce.

Jeremy - totally up for a quick swap! I drove your car when it was previously owned; it's partly why I sold the Cerbera. However, would be very interesting to drive it again after the Radical experience! I loved that Caterham 6-speed box especially - I find the sequential uninvolving (commute on a bike), and of course the not so nervous oversteer action.

PS Only reason no more days this year - getting married and going on honeymoon!

Wasn't trying to compare the two Danny, they are fundamentally different.
Any 'road' car, no matter how track suited will not be a match for something that was designed specifically for track use that weighs the same as a packet of fags and has plenty of power.
It must be frustrating only being able to get 6/10ths out of the driving experience though

And I certainly drive it to 10/10ths of my ability when there's a clear track which is plenty exciting!

Having said that, I'd love a passenger ride to feel the acceleration next year! As for that exhaust note...
