2006 A8 Sat Nav
Discussion
Guys if I upgrade my satnav disk (currently have 2005 or 2006) does it change the functionality such that I can put the full postcode in, or is it still the slightly annoying limitation of only being able to put in half the code before I have to then choose the town, street etc.
Its fine in town but a bit ribbish in the country!
Thanks

The current VAG systems still only allow the first 4 digits of the postcode, so I don't anticipate that you'll get any additional functionality by upgrading your disc.
I think I read somewhere that the limitation on postcode entry is a result of design for the German market, but it's very poor when you can get full postcode search in a £100 TomTom or similar.

Yes it's annoying but people seem to go on about it like it's the apocalypse coming tomorrow!
By not using all of the postcode the identification of the destination can be difficult. particularly with common street names eg High Street, Main Steet, The Avenue, Birmingham Road. This can make it tricky. My old volvo V70 from 6 years ago let you enter the exact house number, told you when you got there and which side of the road it is on. Sometimes I miss that function as I spend my working day driving to areas that I don't know and on a busy road looking for house numbers etc can be a PITA, as I end up kerb crawlingYes it's annoying but people seem to go on about it like it's the apocalypse coming tomorrow!
Usually its fine, but it can on occasion be a nightmare. Two examples
3 weeks ago trying to find a conference centre. The road isn't listed and the 4 letters doesn't get you close enough to stumble accors it. Spend half an hour driving round the city
Last week on hols in Devon - again odd address and the 4 letters only got me to within 10 miles of the destination!

As others have said, sometimes it's very frustrating due to the difficulty of finding the correct street, or the uncertainty of whether the address will be referenced by street or some other locator (a fairly common problem with places like business parks). However, ultimately it's a bit of a joke that you can't do something so basic/fundamental when the cost of the factory fit sat navs is so high.Yes it's annoying but people seem to go on about it like it's the apocalypse coming tomorrow!
