Respray

Hi,

I have estoril blue on the Tuscan at the moment, but due to stone chips and a blister on the door, I'm going to respray the entire car. Not sure if I want to go with the Estoril again or go for a darker blue.

The interior is cream with navy dash and carpet, but I don't know whether or not to go darker.

Any recommendations as to best colours you have or have seen?

I don't want to do a reflex but would like a metallic.

I like Red Bull, I think something like Starmist Blue (my Chim is Jaguar Pacific Blue which is similiar) would also look good. With Dark Blues you can get a really good deep shine, and on a Tuscans curves I think it would look special. And a good contrast to a light interior.
I think it does devalue a car if it's not the original colour, however, seems like you've got the car as a keeper, so get what YOU like.

Do you really think it devalues the car? I can understand it on a 'normal' car due to it potentially hiding something.

But on TVR's I would have thought a decent paint job would be a bonus - even more so it you turn it into a 'more desirable' colour.

Especially as by the time you have a few scrapes and chips, cost wise, you’re into re-spray costs anyway.

I'm still not sure if I should repair or re-spray my car - either way its lots of £££!

I don't think it devalues the car, I think most buyers would prefer the paintwork to be in excellent condition and are not that concerned whether it is exactly the same colour as it originally left the factory. All in my opinion of course!

As da_murphster says, the cost of putting a few chips right on a flip or a chameleon paint job can add up to the same price as a full respray in a different colour.

I'm in the same boat, I have opted for a full respray rather than try a repair the poor parts of my Tuscans bodywork. I am going for a white pearl with silver from chameleon blue......mad??????? probably!!

Just finished with reassembling.
Have done full respray in electic orange (Ford focus RS colour!).
A lot of work, before he was in "golden coulour" which
was really unacceptable.
Sorted a lot of small niggles, the built qualtity
was really poor in 2000.

My view on devalues the car , is probably because I was sold a Chim as being Sunset Yellow , only after I had bought it, I discovered it was Halcyon Midas Yellow originally. It really annoyed me, I felt cheated, because I wasn't told it wasn't original. Kicked myself for not checking properly....it was a bad paint job aswell, with the engine bay, inside the doors,the strip where the roof fiited all still Midas.... so I sold the car.

Also consider Laser Blue - Lotus Elise colour. There are a few Tamoras and T350s in this colour. Nice.

Not mad Tony - will look brilliant im sure!! I have always fancied pearly white with a hint of blue. But then maybe IM mad!!

It has been on a few threads recently - the cost of a full respray to a non flip colour is £2400 including VAT, full colour change, from a company called SP Automotive that specialise in TVR's. See S6 DVL's profile for his colour change respray to flip colour...looks very nice.

Another company, Option 1 estimated around £3k, they have a fantastic reputation.

Crikey, lots of views and thoughts. I have to say I do like the look of the Red Bull, but then with darker colours the stone chips show through so much more quickly and then need to do it again. With light blues they don't show up so well. I think I need to see some in the flesh or large pics of the colours to see what I think.

Maybe Austin's turd brown that was used on Allegro's could be an option...

Just had mine resprayed and I've had it Paintshield'd , just the exposed front end bits... Looks to be a pretty job , see the very odd minisule bubble (in fact 1)... Need to see if it has been worth it...Got a spare front end not paintshield'd , so if it doesn't work out will swap inspection bonnets, front grill and spliters... £750 (incl VAT). The whole of the inspection bonnet is done in one piece, so no nasty lines now.

If you like blue, don't forget that horrible "Metro/Maestro" colour.

I saw a TV program once where this guy had worked for a company for decades and had been waiting for a company car for as long. Everyone else had Mondeos etc, so when he was near retirement the B*st*rds eventually got him a Maestro in that blue. I felt for the guy... he literally wept.

Actually do many people go for armourfend or similar? Does it look ugly leaving a line on the car? I can see why people do it, but if it spoils the look it isn't really worth it.

i've amourfend on the Tuscan and whilst it is a little unsightly (although doesn't show up too much on Spectraflair) it does seem to be quite effective in reducing stone chip damage.

My previous Tuscan did not have it and as a result i had the front lower bonnet re sprayed three time during my ownership.

Overall I'd recommend it.

i was gutted at the time it happened, but it gave me a good opportunity to change the cheesegrater front as i alwas thought it let the car's looks down. i wish now i had also got rid of the small side-lights, just to improve the looks of the front wings, that will probably become a job to do through winter along with the interior and polishing the engine.
