Well, I am in bed, with the man flu, so I have been searching eBay for random stuff...

How does a modern Aston V12 sound for (possibly) £1,500?

Both big engines, no doubt complicated and expensive to get working, but the sound and individuality would be fantastic. I have always liked the idea of a powerful V12 Ultima. It has even crossed my mind to put a cheeky bid in on the Aston engine and keep it in my storage until such a time I find something to drop it in!

Christ. That went for £1650. If I'd seen that before it ended I would have bought it then worried about about what it was going in later.

Exactly what I was thinking...

I often go on eBay and search for "V12 engine", "V10 engine" etc etc just to see what comes up. I can't see there being a huge trade in Aston/ Lambo/ Ferrari etc engines on eBay (but I could be wrong, the Aston prrice suggests not though) so I am hoping there will be a bargain one of these days...

It would surely take a fair bit more effort but Aston V12 for less than £2k or SBC for £5k... I know which was I would go for a special... Wouldd look nice in that McLaren replica discussed in the Kit Cars section!

Can the ultima chassis not be extended by a wee bit to make the engine fit?.... Doesnt sound too challenging to me....would need ot extend the rear clam as well.... but.... worth it for a v12 wouldnt you say?

Wasn't there at least one Jag V12 engined Ultima, running around a few years back? May have bee a 'Sport' or even an earlier car, but i am pretty sure that the old adverts said it could take a Jag V12, which I am guessing would be more narrow (2v heads) but probably longer...

no!!! i cant think of one reason why it would be worth it but thats just my opinion.

A BMW V12 is a good fit - pretty much the same size as an SBC.
The Aston V12 is a giant by comparison and completely impractical to fit without serious hacking to chassis, and potentially bodywork too.

That would depend on whether you prefer the sound, smoothness or individuality of a big V12 I guess... But, if the Aston could be made to fit relativly easily then that was VERY cheap power and I would have that over the V8 all day long.

what box you using, what adaptor plate and clutch system do you plan to use ... whos going to make the headers??

what engine management are you going to use and how are you going to get the un needed countless functions disabled from the manufacturers ecu's, there will be at least 2 some modern cars now can have 5!!!
