In an e36 coupe planning to do the ring soon. What costs are involved and what set up should be played...whats the best tires to use on OEM BMW wheels.

All help and experience will great as I'm new to this game.

Thanks

Just be sure your brake fluid is new. Bleed the b rakes and make sure the4re is plenty of meat on the pads. Don't worry about special tyres at this point. Any decent tyre will do fine.

Take it easy for a while. Then take it easy for a while longer...

Im sure that youll take this the wrong way: but please let us know when youre going so that we can not be there. The last thing I want to do is share the road with a boy who has boasted that his low powered BMW is as quick as an M3; sorry.

At least I have many more years left to get round the ring being a "boy" than you. Oh, further to that with my "low powered" car I'll live to see it. Further to that I only said what the BMW was, not what has been done to it...you'd be surprised about the performance compared to a Porsche 968.

(mod edit; FunnyImpreza, while I see why you retaliated, and understand why you did so, let's please refrain from being offensive. Thanks smile )

Edit: I checked what you wrote on my BMW piece...your a cock and asked for this reply.

Is there any other way to take this supercilious rot?

Stop pouting and grow up; you silly little boy. It was the rubbish that you wrote on that foolish BMW thread that prompted me to comment as I have.

Further to that; it's you're, short for you are: not your. Did you go to school?

get some proper tyres, sticky as possible, possibly michelin pilot cup sports.

or some semi slicks ( and hope it doesnt rain)

Tyres make a big difference.

But the one thing which will make you quicker than any mod. will be to learn the track (even if you just do a lot of gran tourismo or similar).

Then when you get there you can get a couple of laps in, get over confident, and spin it at over 100mph - I know I did!

I would advise otherwiase.

There are a couple schools of thought on the subject, and I recognise the argument that R tyres might give a greater safety margin in certain cases, but when thing do go pear shaped, they will do so at a higher speed, often resulting in a bigger off.

Wet weather is a regular feature of the Eifel, and the tarmac on the Nordschleife is not known for its wet grip. In some sections it can be like ice. PSCs are rather useless in the wet...

I agree that tyres make a big difference. For a novice, normal tyres are the better choice.

hmmmmmm theres a nice big scope there "NORMAL TYRES" range from ching ying ling chinese foreskins to michelin pilot sports.

I know which end of the scale I would be going with and they'd be michelins or similar.

Having been there I feel qualified to talk about this.

Do what Hammerwerfer says. You might have been there, but he's been there an awful lot longer than just about anybody...

Four of my trips have been on budget Chinese tyres, and I've never had a problem, wet, dry or snowy...

I garauntee you could have got faster and safer lap times on better tyres.
