M1 is very slow most of the time. I'm a regular user of the A1 and have had few problems, especially since the roundabout south of Stamford was removed. Once the Colsterworth one is finished it'll be a half decent road.

Same here. Regularly drive to Lincoln from London on a Friday night. A1 all the way. You should be able to do it in 2 1/2 hours if the traffic is good.

You also get to have a blast throught the Hatfield Galleria tunnel which is always fun. Look out for speed traps on the A1(M) during daylight hours.
