I've been uumming and aahhhing about which one to go for. Haven't test driven the Maser yet but looking forward to it and the Merc is a very accomplished car but poor quality interior. Not much wrong with Cayman except for being down on power and will need close to £20000 to properly correct that(increase engine size etc). Any ideas?

C63 for me. Maserati is better looking and more of a special, accomplished brand but I feel Maserati made the Granturismo purposly under powered so when they launched the Granturismo S, it would blow everyone skirts up which it did! I am a massive fan of the Granturismo S. Slick looks with the performance it deserves.
I would still have the Mercedes over the standard Granturismo though. Just love the sound and they look sweeeeeeeeet also.
I feel ill you even having the Caymen in there! Carrera S (4S) is a different story and would make it tougher but a Caymen? confused Rather eat my toe nails than own a wannabe... wink

I would say the Maserati for the event of driving it but for sheer silly, grin inducing speed the Merc has got to be driven - its very fast and sounds lovely.

As opposed to a 1.2 Corsa?

well the Cayman is a very accomplished car in itself. The plan is to up the power considerably! 911 is okay but really just a more luxurious version of the Cayman with a bit more space.

I really like the Maser (which is why i asked in this forum rather than the Porsche one!) and as mentioned it will definitely have a sense of ocassion. Only thing that lets the Merc down is the interior. Can't even spec a bit more leather even if i wanted to waste money on it!

I'll be testing a GT and GT S next tuesday(used ones obviously !). Thanks for all the feedback guys. Apologies if i end up making some of you eat toenails tongue out

Think i have been pushed in a very decisive direction after trawling a few youtube videos!

Does anyone know if the engine can be tuned to give just a bit more power? Best solution would be to have the AMG 6.3 engine in the Maser!

Hope this sways you judgement.. Bought a Merc SL brand new 67K in 2003/2004 The car was the worst car i have ever owned in my life..
When picking the car up i should have walked away there & then..Runs in paint work. Leather interior had faults in leather. spring sticking out of passenger seat. I could got on forever,, Porsches all are great build quality, Have owned about 8 of them various cars & spec.Inc a 996 turbo at present..
Masser cant really say a lot but i own a ferrari 360 as well great build quality & speed ....They share a lot of parts & ownership as ferrari cant be that bad..
Just make sure of main dealer history what ever you buy,,, Have you look at vauxhall corsa's

well...looks like it could be the Vauxhall Corsa. Really like the option where you can have the integrated bike rack in the rear bumper. According to the adverts it is very easy to pick up girls using this device. Not sure about the Maser being able to do the same as it just makes loud noises and some italian design house made a few drawings of it. However since i'm not allowed to chat girls up any more it might have to be the Maser frown

oopps...haven't updated my profile! The Noble has been gone for a couple of years frown . It was an amazing car and never had any faults with it...until i sold it! Handling, speed, and steering feel is amazing. I think the only slight problem is obviously is the cabin quality. Nothing wrong with the build but a bit plasticky as would be expected of a semi kit car and you're not supposed to be looking at the interior anyway when you are driving! I wouldn't say that it is more refined than a Griff (i had a Tuscan as well previously) but it felt more composed or maybe the roads in London were better a few years ago!!! Griff is an amazing car as well. Never driven one but always wanted one. The shape has never lost it's appeal and it sounds glorious!

The cayman is in no way a 'wannabe'. It is a very good car in its own rights!

It gets quite tiresome these comments. Gallardo is a wannabe Murci, R8 is a wannabe Gallardo, TT is a wannabe RB etc etc ad nauseum. The Cayman certainly is a great drivers car and most press would agree and question why, apart from snobbery, you'd pay more for a 911. I nearly bought a Cayman 2 years ago and, although the 911 was well within budget, never considered any other car in the Porsche line up.

I don't understand why people do this, the car below a certain car in price range (same manufacturer) is obviously not going to be as powerful as the one above it. At the end of the day, the manufacturer is still a business and it makes no business sense to have a cheaper product out-perform your more expensive product. And as to people buying a cayman over a 911, the proof is above! These cars are different at the end of the day which sells the bottom one over the top one and vice versa

I had a new GranTurismo in Jan 08, then a new C63 AMG in June 08, not had a Gayman mind!

C63 will put a bigger smile on your face from a driving perspective, but it is a bit of a hooligans car + give it a while and Chavs will get their hands on them.

GranTurismo is a classy bit of kit, one of the most practical GT's I have owned (proper 4 seater), but prob not the best for big miles (running costs will be high + value will decimate itself)

If it were me I'd buy a 997 Turbo instead....which I have (funnily enough)! smile

what are the running costs like for the Maser and besides that has it held up well in terms of usage? I'm going to be coming out of a supercharged RUF so have sort of done the 997 Turbo thing. The only thing putting me off the C6 as said before is the abundant plastic interior. Fine in a C180 not so good in a £60000 car. The Cayman(spelling?) was a compromise because it isn't as practical as a 911 but apparently has better handling. I am rarely going to track my car and have convinced myself as much so hopefully ruled the Cayman out. Really hoping that i will like the Maser GT S when i see it in the flesh. The late 08 early 09 cars are around £80000 though. Thinking of offering a slightly cheeky £70000!

if you have the budget i would try both the GT S and the new S auto. manual S sounds uh mad!
auto version seems to have different exhaust so not sure if its sounds same. demonstrators arrived at dealers in last couple of weeks. if you go for the standard GT i would get a used one in 55-60k region
