I want to buy a decent gun to lay down some cotas of primer and then high build primer on the bodywork of my fastback. I won't be doing the final paintjob as I have neither the talent nor the facilities ... but as I've done everything on it up to now, I want to give the body a good few coats and the also the wings, bonnnet, bootlid etc which I'll do in my garden when the sun is here ...

I have no idea on what to spend on getting a gun though ... I have a decent compressor but what's a decent gun cost £20? £50? Gravity fed? Or not? What are the pluses and minuses of both - or doesn't it uch matter when just doing the prep work. Anything I should look out for - anyone any links?

As for the high build paint - would something off Ebay do - or do bodyshops have a favourrite with good even coverage etc - suppose that's as much down to a decent gun though.

Cheers

Car as it is at present ...

Get something like a cheap Sealey gun, gravity fed. Give it a good wash through first though, they come full of oil!

You should get a decent filler primer which you can mix yourself, see Kett Autopaints (Wisbech) or similar. The better the primer finish, the better the top coat will be, so it's worth getting decent quality paint and gun. I use DeVibliss gus which are supposed to be the best, you may get a decent second hand one on Ebay, good luck.

Unless you are doing small area body repairs, there is no need for a brand name gun such as DeVilbiss or Sata. You only need a cheap gun, if it only costs £15, it doesn't matter if the pot cracks, you drop it or what ever.

Then keep the gun just for primer.

But... if you have the money, a gun like the one in the link is ideal.
