The Tide has Turned

Mass Media turns on Speed Cameras

For some years now the cries of anguish from sensible drivers complaining about cynically sited speed cameras have been ignored.

Now, the mass media is jumping on the bandwagon and supporting calls for cameras to be used only in genuinely dangerous locations.

Autocar recently started a campaign and in a significant move, the RAC supported them. AutoExpress are also on the case and more significantly still the Sun newspaper is calling for the 'Highway Robbery' to stop. They even make the point that flashing signs warning people of excess speed are more effective than cameras anyway.

It's been a significant couple of months. The support of the mainstream media will add enormous weight to those calling for changes. There's a long way to go before any changes are made to policy, but political parties would be unwise to ignore the issue now.

If the likes of The Sun are on the case you can expect the rest of the pack to follow suit, and maybe for once our ethic-free gutter press will inadvertently be put to good use.

I'm not being entirely flippant when I say that with The Sun on the case we should expect changes...it's amazing what a 4 million strong reader (voter) base can do

They also have pictures of girls with their baps out...

Isn't it amazing that with all the info about the S.A.F.E.R. petition having been on PH for months, suddenly virtually every paper and magazine has started to run a similar campaign.

And isn't also amazing that not one of them has so far replied to my mailshots...

The government's looking shaky already, what with Bush, the war and a load of other problems to contend with. If a party (and I guess it wouldn't be the Lib Dems) was willing to embrace this new mood in their manifesto, they could smash Bliar completely come election time.

page 15 in today's copy of the sun is particulary ger-rate. (all thanks to the accountant in my office who reads it): would even go in for a 'speed scamera' sun car-sticker.. but for the fact it has 'The Sun' splashed over it too.

heh.

The tide may have turned but we are a long way from getting speed limits on Mways scrapped and Livingstone, Brunstrom, Palin, Begg and the lib dems and T2000 ritually dissembowled and their children steralised. There is a lot of work to do

I think an investigation into the accounts of these orgainsations need to be carried out. It may be "interesting".
