New uprated cams?
Discussion
My engine is in bits at the moment because I'm having a new head gasket put on. I went down to speak to the guys at dulfords yesterday and whilst the engine is out I thought I would look at the general condition.
They have suggested that whilst the engine is out that we look at the bearings (£100 ish in parts if need replacing), new chain because one is not as tight as it should be which comes in a set of 4 (£100 for parts), new oil pump (£350 for part which will give increased oil psi). New cams as both of the cam shafts are little scored in one place(not the cams themselves), not to the point where it is causing damage but ideally change them. Also they are suggesting that the new cam shafts can be made a 10 thou thinner to give me more adjustment on the shims. They are also suggesting the new racier cams to give slightly more bhp/torque(£195 each for parts).
This is altogether pushing my budget but would rather get it all sorted now rather than the engine coming out every 5 mins. I guess what I'm asking is all the above necessary to do now?
Has anyone put these new racier cams in their speed six? How does it drive? I have been told it will be slightly lumpier on tick over.
Thanks in advance!

Hey Andrew
Sorry would have replied earlier but am out in Norway working and only just got the internet working on the rig.
Yup I had a full rebuild with oil pump, mods to the head (early Tuscan) and all the usual goodies as well as these new cams. Have just run the engine in and changed the oil and given it a boot and they are seriously powerful. It is currently getting the shims checked while I am away.
I want to get it put on a dyno just out of interest but it feels so much more powerful than before. For example you hit 3000rpm in first gear and it just pins you in the seat all the way up the revs. In 3rd gear it pulls through much more of the rev range when overtaking.
I think petrol consumption is down but that could be my right foot
I would definately consdider them as an upgrade. I still have the standard gearbox and diff but would be interesting to find out just how fast it is. I am sure i will be experimenting over the summer.

Hi Greig,
Did Dulfords do the work?
Mine has the uprated diff already so it could be fun. A little more torch would be nice, just so there is more obtainable power in the lower revs. Its just pushing my budget doing all this now but I understand that its cheaper doing it all now than doing it in two stages.
Thanks Andrew

Yeah Richard and Chris down at Dulfords rebuilt it. They really know their stuff. On another plus side I have 40psi on very hot idle and 70psi on full chuff with the new oil pump which also increases the flow. Did Dulfords do the work?

Have a wee oil leak at the mo but isnt that bad and will get round to sorting it soon.
