Tolls and Permanent Speed Cameras

Having travelled to Le Mans this afternoon, here is an update on the fixed speed cameras, current roadworks and tolls.

I took the easy route from Calais and using the motorways all the way down. Total Journey time to the start of the Mulsanne straight was a couple minutes over four hours. One stop at Bosgouet(just past Rouen) to fill with fuel.

Due to my run in with the Gendarmes at last year's classic, I took it steady and stayed in (or around) the speed limit all the way down.

Road Works

• Contraflow on the A28 towards Rouen between KM82 and KM91. The roadworks should be finished by the end of May, but could overrun. Re-laying the tarmac on the Calais bound carraige way.
• Resurfacing on the Le Mans ring road (A11 KM170) as you join from the A28 (looks like it's almost finished).
• Diversion on A28 at Junction 23 (the turn off for the circuit) This looks temporary and only in place for the next few day, but I will look into this further

Fixed Speed Cameras
Some of these were there last year, but just so that you are all aware. No Doubt there will be many mobile speed traps in June

• A28 KM 49 Camera at bottom of hill just before a bridge
• A28 KM174
• A11 KM167 just before the Sarge Le Mans Services next to the Total petrol prices sign

There are also two cameras on the A28 just south of Rouen for the large bridges and not forgetting the camera just before the Rouen tunnel (these are all 90KPH)

Toll Prices
Boulogne to Rouen - €7.10
Rouen to Le Mans - €18.90

I paid €1.30 per litre for V power at Bosquet, but at the Super U in Change unleaded is €1.18

I will post some more info about the campsites and football stadium later in the week.

One to remember is that if you see a speed camera sign then there will be a camera to follow usually within a mile.

You really shouldn't get nicked by fixed cameras in France. Great big camera sign = camera just up the road.

There will of course be loads of mobile traps all the way down as usual Which is why I will try my up most not to speed ....too much;) Some of these are really hard to spot until its too late. Remamber they wear dark colours and are usually well hidden. Last year there was one sitting on the otherside of the barrier out of sight with his arm and the gun laying along the top. Not the best weekend to go belting through France tbh

We have come across cops with radar guns just a few miles before the peage booths, they zap you and then call ahead to the other half of the team waiting at the barriers... sneaky but effective...

yep I was in France last weekend and they pulled over a white van man at the peage and I can only assume for that reason.

Be carefull they are getting really tough with speeding been going for a few years now and deffo getting more gendarme about every year. My son drove for the first time last year and got caught his car was on hoilday in France for 3 months after that and cost my son 750 euros for the cars stay I paid 700 euros for solicitors, hotels plus losing time off work ferries etc .So be carfull you have been warned . If he had had the logbook with him at the time he got stooped he might have only got a hefty fine and banned from driving and his co-driver could have taken over because the car was not in his name but he forgot it and when he went to court the said the car was used to break the law, but it is French law that they can,t take the car if it is not in your name.
