being a vegetarian these 26 years or more, I only eat the Hollands Cheese & Onion pies from t' village chippy, even if the pastry may well be dripping with lard really...
Also near to Castle XXVIII there's a local butcher / baker who makes pies which may be more popular than the meat they sell, not that I'd know... What they do make that I can eat (as well as their C&O's and Cheese pastie-style things) is a pie that's a meat and spud pie without the meat but a load of onions and extra buttery pastry and which, when eaten hot includes more than just a mouth-warming heat and calorie-maximum comforter.
I'd take some pictures of one and post them here, but they'd never look good with missing mouthfuls or the usual signs of a recently-big blob of HP sauce on the plate or one of the same shop's egg custards with extra nutmeg looming in a menacing, slightly out-of-focus way...
Since coming back home to Lancashire in January '04 I've 'collected' an extra few kilogrammes of waist-area baggage. Given the number of pies I've consumed in the 5 and a bit years since then, they are obviously all lo-fat really.
that last sentence was brought to you by In Denial Productions Inc. - a company specialising in supporting the self-deluded for nearly 6 years...

eta - one of those no-meat pies is called a Butter pie, obviously...

In the RoL News this afternoon...
Republic of Lancashire Police and Border Security patrols from the 'Ay-Up' Regiment of the Duke of Lancaster's Own 'Black Pudding' brigade have intercepted a darkish pinkish, purplish vehicle with a passenger seat and (tiny) boot full of restricted not-for-export pies.
The driver of the car appeared to have a large meat 'n' spud pie stuck to his trouser zip area but which, on closer inspection by skilled and well-trained inspectors, was confirmed as actually being wrapped around his penis, which was noted as being, "an even shorter knob than t' car's"
The car also showed signs of having been driven some distance and confirmatory information is being collated with 'colleagues' in the part-time, pretend and not-proper similarly small knobs of the UK's Highways Agency which will show that the driver exceeded every posted speed limit over a distance of more than 200 miles before entering the Republic through the only unguarded access 'field' near Wigan.
The Duke of Lancaster, (aka 'the Queen' outside of Lancashire, like there is such a place really...), said she had never known such a poor attempt at smuggling pies. Her Grace said she'd managed at least three large boxes in the last few days using her ducal helicopter and even poor Diana could usually manage to get a few good sized meat 'uns out in her batty old Mini before that 'incident' in 1997...

XXVIII's PistonHeads post count is now nearing 2000.
Celebration parties throughout LCUKland are planned for nearly 3 minutes after the post is made.
A sponsor was sought to provide some proper beer and Daniel Thwaites have promised to supply some bottles of Lancaster Bomber to Castle XXVIII...

Yeah that was me alright! I did actually attend interview for the pie testing, but the MD decided that my behaviour around the production line was "unhealthy and inappropriate for a family product designed for consumption".
I'd like to take the opportunity to mention that I'm also availble for:
Donut testing (pic courtesy of Swerni at Dunsfold this weekend)

Bacon Sandwich testing (pic courtesy of Evil Fish at Brooklands two weeks ago).

Hamburger testing (no one quick enough to catch the eating process yet).
