If I were to go to MK or Westfield and buy a brand new kit of parts, would I be able get a £2000 discount thanks to the government? Even if I bought a factory built car, would I be eligible?

I doubt it. it would be perhaps the only decent thing to come of this stupid idea!

what they really should be doing is offering £2000 to recycle your car as a kitcar or perhaps restore it!!!!

The Complete Budget Report said:
To give a boost to the car industry during the current downturn, the Government announces the introduction of a vehicle scrappage scheme. A discount of £2,000 will be offered to consumers buying a new vehicle to replace a vehicle more than ten years old which they have owned for more than twelve months. The Government will set aside £300 million for this scheme with funding matched by manufacturers participating in the scheme. The Government will work with industry to introduce the scheme next month. The scheme will end by the start of March 2010, or when funding for the scheme has been used if earlier.
I believe the manufacturer has to provide half the discount.

Does the scrapped car have to be running currently?

I know this is a horrible thing to suggest about my beloved first car, but hypothetically, if I scrapped my Quantum could I get £2k off the cost of a new Westfield kit? scratchchin

To qualify for the scheme the car being purchased has to be registered, which a kit wouldn't be. A turn-key solution from Westfield may well qualify though.

The car must be owned for the previous 12 months and have a current MOT. I can't see Westfield giving £1000 discount.
