I'm fully expecting this to get moved to the 'Sunglasses' sub-forum. Or the 'Audio-Visual' sub-forum. Or perhaps the 'Clothing' sub-forum...

What are the relative merits and disadvantages of amber tinted as opposed to smoked sunglasses lenses?

Is it simply that amber lenses give sharper definition but distort colours, and smoked lenses portray colours more accurately?

Don't try and ski/snowboard in a blue tint. You can't see anything.....

Don't yellow/amber lenses give better contrast? Hence the use in shooting and motorsport (yellow lights for poor weather?) Anyway regardless of lens colour I always like to have polarized lenses for driving...

I use yellow/amber lenses in low light conditions as they provide better contrast. So when driving the 7 after dark with the aeroscreen for example.

Mirrored iridium jobbies from when it is ultra bright.

Yellow/orange for when the light is dim or flat to help with definition.

I did actually read online a while back what the merits of each coloured lense were. They do actually provide more of a function than just asthetics depending on your eyes and what you use them for.
It may have been the Oakley website even?
