On the way home from work I was in slow moving traffic and noticed what looked like a Koeneisigg coming the other way, indicating to turn across infront of me. As it did so I saw what looked like the Maserati badge (3 pronged fork). It had no front number plate.

It was painted matte black, looked like a Koeneisigg from the front and a long bodied Mclaren F1 from the side. It moved VERY quickly up the side road and out of sight.

Any ideas?

MC12? Was the plate JET** or **JET? (no, I'm not thinking of JK's Enzo) smile

Thats it - It was an MC12 but I have no idea what the reg was as there was no plate on the front and I diddnt get a chance to read the rear.

Are they a rare sight on the roads?

VERY!

I think 50 were made initially (something like 47/48 in blue/white), 2/3 in black or very dark blue. I dont know how many are in the UK but I would guess at no more than 4 or 5.

Someone with better knowledge than me can confirm/set me straight, but I dont think i'll be miles out. Certainly rarer than an Enzo!

55 made in total, but 50 customer cars - in 2 batches, IIRC.

Based on the Enzo chassis, but longer, wider and taller - faster too. Was built to allow Maserati to compete in the FIA GT series.

Must admit I thought they were all white / blue...

Must admit I thought they were track only and not road legal but guess they can be modded. Never seen it in black but looks totally awesome, better go off to "Trap 1" before my PA gets the wrong idea.................

A certain BE has one, I believe he bought it for his daughter eek

They are EPIC cars, I will have one, one day. Friend of mine looked into one seriously last year and was most pleased with the insurance quote he had-think it was about £11,000 or so.

The MC12 was road legal, however later there was track version roughly equal to the FXX, called the MC12 Versione Corsa with 744 bhp.

But have you seen the price of them now? £900k for an MC12 and £1.25 million for a MC12 VC!

I think weak sterling has come into play, when I looked last year for him, it was around £400,000+ upwards...I am guessing being a VERY limited run these cars are very prized indeed. I fell in love with it even more when Ii saw one in West Palm Beach at a Supercar Show
