I know im not really allowed to start a post with an advert but hopefully my question will negate any ideas that its self promotion.

He says the car has a rare hybrid engine from an e36.

my first assumtion is that he means its the series 42 engine in the 1990-91 318is.

i think the fact he said hybrid confused me a little. What do you all think.

and dont even think about outbidding me!!!!!!

edit- forgot link- idiot.

he's saying it's a rare 'hybrid model' ie a car with an engine from another model

not that it's a hybrid engine

could be any engine though

The E30 318is had 16 valve 1.8 which made about 140bhp. I think this engine was developed for the E36 but BMW put some in the E30 318is in '91. Occasionally it got called the 'baby M3' but it's not a real M car but did have a few bonus sporty bits - cloth sports seats, lip, skirts and spoiler, harder suspension but very important a galvanised body so it won't rust like other E30s!

I wouldn't buy that one tho - I'd buy the E30 325i that I've got up for sale wink

I'd guess its fitted with the M44 from the e36 318iS rather than M42 from the original e30.

Still a 1.8 16v and i cant rememebr the differences!

i guess my next question is: what is it worth? i really like it and 99k is quite low mileage for these cars.

baring in mind the lack of descriptiveness and the fact i have no idea what engine is in it.

what should i not bid over? 1k? 1200?

Friend owned a 318is, rated it very highly, though I would not say it was immune to rust, the thing was covered in it, dispite being well looked after!

325i's command a lot more money, and the 6 pot is probaby better on the road, but the 4 pot is going to be better for track use, which these things seem to be perfect for.

Yeah, that old nugget. Galvanized body, right. In addition to that all 318is's were made handbuilt in a secret factory on moonless nights by highly trained blonde German virgins wearing nothing but Lederhosen.

Go on, log onto www.e30zone.net and ask if 318is had a galvanized body. I dare you. I really do.

I suspect they are but a fairytale, much like the galvanized 318is smile

I had a rusty E30 318is. They rust just like every other Beemer I've had bar the E34.

Zone, just like any other Internet forum has a bunch of people who don't know what they're talking about. Ask Andyboy, Pacerpete, Ant or Brianmoore about galvanized 318is and see what they have to say.

The 318is is a really good engine (better than the 6 pot 320i on power, torque, rev limit, mpg, weight and you name it everything else) but it lacks presence.

You need a 325 in your life.*
