Goodbye Discovery 3, hello RS6!
Discussion
Sitting here at 3.20pm 24th April awaiting the arrival of the beast with 572bhp, and room for the three woofers to experience warp 10!! I'm so excited I just had to do something to keep me occupied so thought I'd share with PH. Had a loaner on 24 hour test drive a few weeks ago and from that moment on couldn't get it out of my head. And then a week or so ago I was in my D3 with a full load in the boot on a country lane and I was stuck behind one of those old boys and his missus out for an afternoon pootle. He did 20 in the corners and maxed out at 40 on the straights and even though the road was lightly used everytime I went for the overtake I had to abort because even in 'sport' mode when I kicked it down the mighty 2.7 DT took around 5 minutes to think about changing down and then another 5 whilst the small team of pygmie engineers in the engine bay threw some levers tec and it actually dropped a cog...by which time grandad had got to the next bend and the chance was gone! So that was it. Next day spent two hours on PH and other interweb sites sussing out best prices etc, then on the blower to various dealers and here we are one week later; the D3 has gone to one dealer and now I sit here awaiting another one to knock on the door to tell me my new daily charger has arrived (although I'll probably hear the waggon coming!). No more diesel in the family, just pure petrol
.
I feel better now.....hang on; is that the sound of a big oil burner I hear coming up the road.....!

I cannot believe it, after all that anticipation, they didn't even leave the dealership! It's all off until tomorrow. There was a last minute problem with part of the security I've ordered for the car and despite being on it for most of the day the techies just couldn't commission it in time to get it to me today. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. But hey ho, tomorrow is not that far away and (hopefully) it will be with me by late morning tomorrow. To answer croyde; yes it's a brand new 2009 MY C6 RS6 Avant in Daytona Grey with all the toys you could possibly want. Inside is black leather with white stitching and carbon inlays. I just feel so
but there's nothing I can do til morning; so rain check time fellas...check back tomorrow and I'll have an update.Sagpack
I have both disco 3 {Two actually 05 & 08} and a new RS6 now 6 months old and yes its a great car.
both cars obviously should not be compared in the same sentence!
I live in the country and the RS is great for a blast every now and again but for pure comfort and a practical family car the d 3 is just unbeatable. {check out the auto express awards a few weeks ago}
The power and speed of the RS is phenomenal, compared to the latest M3 which I had, but it needs to be respected, and if you want to see its full potential take it to the track. Audi's handling has now also dramatically improved, so track days should be fun. I as yet, have never had mine on the track.
I hope you enjoy it, as much as I do! did I mention depreciation? thank goodness No!!!

Forget depreciation, have you seen the bhp on that RS6!! Seriosly though, if you worried about depreciation you wouldn't even buy a D3 cos you'd do so much dosh. I loved mine but despite living in the countryside (and having been grateful for its offroad abilities during the recent Feb snow) I decided that for the limited time I really need a 4X4 the rest of the time it was just not 'enough'. both cars obviously should not be compared in the same sentence!

My RS6 arrived this morning and it's absolutely totally and utterly fantastic. Have been out in it all morning driving and playing with the toys and I have to say what an awesome bit of kit it is.....yes I will miss the D3 but every time I now come up behind some slow moving traffic I will never again have to try and plan a 5 mile overtake!!
It'll be a swift press on the loud pedal or a flick of a paddle and boom! you're gone and the traffic's left behind!
Totally understand why, if you have the room, you'd have a D3 aswell (although I'm struggling with why you'd have 2 ctm? Unless you really really like them
) but with the rest of my fleet I only have roon for one family load lugger and for now the RS6 is it! I think I'm in love already

pics please?
Will take some tomorrow and then try and post (I need to sus' webhosting!)...I've been meaning to post pics of various automotive tin for the last few months but have never got round to it but will do so for this big beastie!
Will give her a clean first and then take some and post them.
glad u like yr rs 6 - i've had one as my daily hack for the past 3 months and i'm very impressed. can't fault it really as the ultimate all rounder. wouldn't bother taking it on the track, just too heavy for that discipline. the wife swears by our disco3, which has to be said is a great car if u live in the sticks and have 3 children to cart around. all the other large suv's are driven by footballers and that rules them out for old snob like me i'm afraid...
We have just got rid of our D3, I wish I hadn't because I can't find any other non MPV that can fit three with boosters and baby seat in the back. Even the RS6 and 5 series are too small in the back.
No one obviously pointed that out to the powers that be that wanted us out of our 4x4s.
