Hi all,

now I know this was very stupid in hindsight, so go easy on me as I'm already feeling delicate about this.

I got a load of birdsh*t on the car parked under some trees. It looked dinosaurs had been having a curry party up there.

So I went to wash this off as you would expect. But washing up liquid and a sponge was not enough for this hardcore mess in places.

So you might wonder what I did - well I turned the sponge around and gently used the scourer side.

When it was dry the next day I couldn't believe the scratches I'd inflicted.

Any suggestions - I bought some T-Cut for metalic paint but have not tried it yet.

Yes I know am a dickh**d - so go easy on the insults smile

Cheers.

Mike.

dont use the t cut !!, you want to get it professionally machine polished as you will be suprised as to what they can do, try refined reflections as they detailed my car.

Hi - thanks for that,

Any idea on a rough cost?

I'm in East London but I suppose Norwich cold be a nice drive - so long as no-one looks too closely at the paintwork smile

Cheers.

surely someone has a buffer and some machine polish/fine cutting compound to help the poor chap. if you were in south wales i would buff the patches for you mate for free, it would only take 10minutes. but once you see how shiny the detailed patches are in comparison to the other paint you will want the whole car detailed

Autoglym SRP or Megs Scratch-X will make it look less bad temporarily. Might have to apply a few coats to fill it.

Agreed, a bit of compound on a rotary buffer should bring it up.

It'll work by hand too if a buffer isn't available.

Towels soaked in hot water to move bird lime (or dead flies) in future. Oh, and NEVER use Fairy Liquid, it has salt in it. Stick to car shampoos yes

You're more than welcome to pop down to my gaff in Worthing and I'll have a go at getting them out. I have a shelf of products to use on it.

Might be a bit far out though.

Thanks once again for all your input - and your extremely generous offers of help.

It looks like I'll have to get hold of some of the specialist stuff mentioned.

Is T-Cut not the same as compound then - it says on it "Metallic Colour Restorer".

Anyway, Many Thanks guys.

Mike.

Nope, T-Cut is a very old type of polish. The particles in it don't break down and fill like a more modern blend does.

try this guy http://www.thepolishingcompany.com/foryourcar.html he attends the griff growl every year, last year he detailed my griff, absolutely fantastic job, show prices were cheaper, I think the normal price must be around £250? sounds a lot but the results from it were worth it.yes

Pansy. We scratched out paintwork by throwing it into cones/armco repeatedly and have since rattle can resprayed a not inconsiderable amount of the car... it'll get a respray eventually, but theres far more important things to do than concern yourself about than the paint. Ours is better for being scruffy, it doesnt matter if the laquer on the passenger side wing is shocking, it doesnt matter if we get another stone chip - it just adds to the motorsport look. hehe

I can recommend g-techniq near Hemel Hemptead - Herts. I had then give one of my cars a going over - and it looked brand new when they had finished with it..bounce

www.gtechniq.com .... Worth a call and chat - but will be more expensive than the generous offers listed here ...
