Not much else is known at this point. I was driving along, moving from a stoplight actually and my car made a nasty grinding noise when I tried to put it into gear.

Then the stick came off in my hand. Oops. I'm thinking this cannot be good.

Anyone have this happen before?

That probably is good actually, sounds more like a linkage problem than a gearbox problem.

linkage problem. I have not had this happen to me. But the knob came off in hands once.

Doing a minor repair to car today and noticed linkage on gearbox about to drop off. Lucky find. So it does happen.

Gotthe console appart over the weekend -- Indeed, it appears to be a simple linkage problem.

Of course, having never seen an Esprit gearbox in it's assembled form, I'm not sure how to reassemble it. It *looks* pretty straightforward and simple, but I'd be most grateful if anyone has a service manual scan or even some hi-res digital photos they could share?

Thanks!
