Just spotted this for sale in the classifieds as a damaged repairable, does anyone on here know the history of it or the previous owner.

It's a dream of mine to own one of these and this could be a potential answer.

All help gratefully appreciated.

Dont know it but when you add up the costs does it actually come out as cheap as other 4.2s ? Have seen good ones go for not much more.
Is it on the register?

I agree with Gazzab,

I bought a salvage car early on in my car days and you really need to calculate the overall cost of repair (inc purchase)vs buying a straight one.

For me, the overall saving was ok but not great, gave me a years worth of 'Free' motoring I suppose and if it's on the register, which they inevitably end up on, selling them on becomes a little harder than usual too.

That's my opinion......you pays your money etc, etc !!!

Cheers Guys your right with the advice.

Theres a lot of trash out there, this looks to have been a well cared for example but not seen it in the flesh, and the guy has not returned my call.

Just looking for info on it before I went any further.

Thats a good mark up on what they paid for it,£5000!!! which is more like what its worth, and its on the register as a cat D,and there looks to be a bit more damage in the original ebay listing, windscreen, bonnet etc,to the new listing,a case of buyer beware I think, and as said above, you can pick up a tidy 4.2 cerbera up for not much money now,for around £8000,and not on the register.

R730 BAY was my first Cerb. I am absolutely gutted to see it in this state.....

I sold it a few years ago but kept in touch with the next owner (I also know the previous owner), I bought the car from James Agger and think it is still in his archives on his website. It had quite a bit of work done on it whilst the next owner had it, it including new manifolds, an engine rebuild / exhaust / remap, he had a few issues with it thereafter and it ended up at another Indy to sort out. Hope somebody buys it at a good price and restores it....

If you need any further info then drop me an email, although it will be tomorrow before I reply as I am off to VMax today driving .

I cannot believe that was classed as a Cat D. From the other pictures the central chassis section had been squashed!

Surely it should have been a B, parts only.

tbh it's got to be worth £5k in parts.

This is me giving said Cerb a wide birth!

Thanks for all the info, I knew someone on here would know of it, it appeared to good to be true, so apparantly cheap with minimal damage, as the saying goes cavat emptor - or somthing like that never was much cop at latin! -

Spent the day at Chatsworth drooling, first TVR day since I parted company with mine, the 944 can do the performance bit but it aint have dull, I have to have another and soon!

Even the 4 year old insulted some poor Sagris owner by saying it was Rubbish - as it had no seats in the back - need to work on the education more.

Apologies, I seem to have gotten my cars mixed up.

The one I was thinking of

It looks like this one may well be an easy repair.

So much so that it's in the classifieds now with a couple of thousand added.

I know one of the previous owners... he showed me around the car before I went looking for mine, really nice guy. He had to sell it as the cost was getting too much and it took 3 indies to sort out a problem with the car, not the car's fault...

He'll be gutted to see what happened to it.

I take it that was Simon? From the sounds of it he had a nightmare after the supposedly good work was carried out.....I think I can remember him saying that it stayed local after it eventually sold. Never good to see them end up like this. I never got attached to this one like I did my 4.5, had it been this one in the ads then i'd have been there like a shot!!

Twas Simon... he took it to two 'reputable' indies, one didn't do the work and tried to charge him for it, the other, putting it politely, was a "useless d**k"... it was the boys just outside Blackpool who fixed it with very little fuss and cost, but I think he'd already spent too much with the other two and had the last indie shift it for him. It was a good car... convinced me to get one.

If it did stay local, I never saw it again. Then I didn't get into that part of Cheshire that often.

Hi everyone

First post here so 'Hi' - and the good news is the car is in a good new pair of hands to be restored to former glory :-)

I bought it off the garage, when the drivers door was crunched, and got them to replace the door with another 4.2 door, respray and fix any other issues, and have since had the car transported to London where I live.

Currently the main issues are that the new door is from a 'new' 4.2 with a different wiring loom from the 'old' 4.2 door, so I'm sat with wiring diagrams that the very helpful Keith Burgess from Clever Trevor sent me, and I have a new replacement kick-plate to fit from Andy at TVR Power.

I'm trying to piece together the full history of the car to make it complete - I so far have the sales receipt from the original owner to James Agger, and James has been really helpful in sending images of the car and pointing me over to this forum - Hi previous owners!!!

If you have the time, it would be great if you can let me know what you had done with the car etc. so I can help complete the bible of the car, and as someone said above - it's great that it's (hopefully) in good hands and going to stay on the road.

I'm in Central London, W2 near Notting Hill, so if anyone knows great people/garages/independants to help nearby I'd welcome the advice!

Many thanks and a picture in new home below :-)

Alex

Actually by the looks of it, I bought it off the garage, who bought it off the original eBay post above, and they had done most of the repairing to the car before I bought it from them (for £2.5K more than the original eBay price!!!)

The original post is gone, however they sell other TVRs under the eBay name of bikebreakersltd - and they have a 4.5 Cerebera engine if anyone is looking. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...

Still they did do all the body work, fix the sill, replace the door, fit new glass for the door and spray everything to match so it looks pretty perfect, so I guess they've earnt their extra money for the deal there :-)
