We were at a National Trust farm this morning, kids in tow petting the lambs and feeding the goats. Took them to the play area and left the pushchair at one side. Mrs Tuna went to the toilets, so I was juggling two kids. Glanced back at the pushchair and it was gone.

Quite amazed at the cheek of whoever walked up to it and walked off quickly enough for us not to see them. Luckily, nothing important was in the pushchair, apart from my camera bag with a couple of decent Canon lenses. We've lost kids' coats, spare clothes and the usual odds and sods needed to look after a couple of young children.

Nothing much the place could do - can't exactly stop and search every person, and by the time we'd run around and made sure it hadn't just been mislaid, the thief must have got far away.

Very upset by the experience.

Sorry to hear that. I don't suppose there's any chance of the car park being covered by CTV?

Nope - from the reaction of the staff, I'd guess it's not something that happens too often.

Just added up the price of two lenses. Damn.

There are some bds in the world - and, sorry to make the generalisation not what you'd expect at a National Trust property either.

I was going to mention the cost of replacing the lenses, but thought they might have been covered by insurance. Also, didn't want to add to your loss. Thieving scum!

Given it's National trust are you sure someone hasn't just walked off with the wrong pushchair?

Well, we checked the whole area. They would have had to walk off at a brisk trot, or at least headed straight for the exit without stopping.

The pushchair had coats and bags on it, so it would have been pretty hard to mistake it for another one. We might be lucky, but I'm not optimistic.

An update - we've been called to say that the pushchair has been found back where we last saw it. Whether or not it's our or still has our things in it is not clear. We'll have to go back tomorrow and find out.

Fingers crossed for you. If it's back in the same position, then I'd say there is a good chance that everything is still there.

Had my bike pinched at university once, they obviously were "equipped" as boltcuttered lock was on the ground. About a week later spotted it nearby on campus just leaned up against a guard rail.

Never got to the bottom of it - could have been pinched to get somebody home, but if they are enough of a to pinch a bike I'm surprised they bothered to return it risk being spotted in possession of it. And weird they happened to be equipped too...

Fingers crossed you get your lenses back. Could have been an innocent mistake? Or could be they went somewhere quiet to have a rummage, pinched the lenses, and dumped the other stuff back - but, again, taking a risk that they might be caught putting the pushchair back...

That was... odd.

A couple of hours after it disappeared, it magically re-appeared in the same spot. Everything intact. No-one can work out quite where it went in the intervening time (we searched, staff searched).

You would be hard pushed to confuse our pushchair with another - it's done the rounds and has the battle scars.

Oh well, very glad not to have to go through the hassle of replacing stuff.

Great news! Probably one of the mums pushing it around the zoo, then returning to car only to discover own pushchair still in the boot. That or you left it close to a wormhole. biggrin

I blame Swine Fever.

Either that of the OPs or the beasts they were feeding.
