e30 with e36 m3 transplant

hi all. Im looking at getting a kit car but also love the idea of a e30 with modern grunt. Im sure its a common mod but want some more detail. I would like to know if the e36 m3 ecu is seperate from the rest of the loom so i can easily transplant all of the running gear. I would also like to know if the physical transplant is straigt forward, like engine size, engine mounts any other things to consider. I am very good with car electrics but have not sniffed around these cars. I also have a friend that can make what ever i need.
