Some little kid has just fallen off his bike onto my new X3 which I picked up on Monday night mad

Luckily I saw it all happen and his parents will be footing the bill for the repair which will consist of at least the drivers door and front wing been painted.

Does anyone know of a good bodyshop in or around the Scarborough area.

Thanks

Paul

At least you got the kid. Some little s&^# spray painted my black mini on one side with blue paint. Luckly bug remover sorted it.

I thought the same. I take it that you don't have children Paul? We can all understand your frustration and annoyance, but strangely enough, most kids don't deliberately aim at cars.

Gabby (6) did exactly the same thing a few weeks ago to Vicki's mum's car, scratched down two doors. She came running in extremely upset to tell us what she had done ... to be honest, we were more proud that she had come and owned up than annoyed by the accident.

Absolutely agree. Whatever car in question, the most important thing is that the kiddie is OK.

I hit a moving car (badly) when I was 6. The poor driver was an absolute star. Possibly saved my life in fact.

Get things into perpesctive.

Ok, so on reflection, may be I was a little harsh in my words yesterday. However, after spending 3 hours cleaning the thing and it been new, for this to happen may be it was justified.

There is nothing wrong with the little kid, the car stopped him hitting the floor. BTW the car was parked up when he wobbled on his bike and fell into the side of it.. why was he so close - who knows.

I am not a parent (yet) but when I am, I will make sure the child can competently ride a bike before letting them out on their own in a street with parked cars.

Oh, he did just ride off until I ran out after him!!

I'm going to get a couple of quotes today if I get time. I don't really want the 2 panels painting so contacted a mobile repair person to see what they say.

At the moment I'm still no further forward with any recommendations..

I think Paul is justified in his frustration. He didnt buy a new car for it to be damaged....understand that these thngs do happen. So ok the child wouldnt have meant to do it but that doesnt help Paul and in that case the parents should take the responsibilty as they should either be supervising or make sure the child isn't anywhere near property.

I have had 3 quotes so far ranging from £207 - £480

The cheapest quote from a place in Scarborough said they would sand it down and do pretty much as described below.

I also emailed a company called Revive! Auto Innovations (UK) Ltd and attached a couple of pictures. This is the response I received.

Hi paul

Looking at the vehicle I would say that the BMW is Titan Silver (354). In my experience the repair your pictures are showing is not that difficult as it does not look like the scratch has mis-shaped the panel. The scratch would need some filling, then priming and then the basecoat and lacquer would be applied.

If I was doing this repair, I would paint up to the swage line on your wing, then blend the panel on this line. The difficult part of the job is to blend the colour in to the centre of the door. This is possible to do, but your email asks if we can get a perfect colour match. A body shop will safe guard against even the smallest colour variation by painting the adjoining panels, or in some cases the whole side of the car. This obviously increases the costs dramatically.

We would instead try to lose the colour in the centre of the door, but then lacquer the whole of the door, or perhaps up to the swage line. Of course, we always attempt to do an invisible repair, but cannot guarantee a minor colour variation due to the high metallic content.

The approximate costs would be £250 plus vat.

Please do email me or call on the details below if you wish to discuss it further.

Regards
Denzil Evans

.........

The most expensive quote so far (£460) from Trenhams in Scarborough has said they would paint the whole of the door, wing and wing mirror.

I have also emailed a picture to Malton BMW who have also advised that the door, wing and mirror will be painted. I await a response from them.

I really don't know what to do now. All I want is a repair which is invisible!!

Ring Rich at Autokraft 0774 8866170 and email him the pic - He does cosmetic repairs and has worked on BMW for over 10 years so will be able to tell you how good the match can be for your colour from previous experiance Everyone will tell you the same though even a body shop in that you can not guarantee an invisible match because you are painting in different conditions - on the plus side it is not on the eyeline of the car - hope you get it sorted out

I have used "invisible repair" specialist on two occasions, each time I had to spend more money and send my car to a proper bodyshop to have the problem rectified professionally.

I had the rear quarter painted on the wifes Disco after it suffered similar damage to your X3. The bodyshop used a similar technique to the one mentioned in your note. The job was perfect.

Quote from BMW = £622 to paint the door and the wing.

Having considered all of the replies, if i was to put it though the insurance then I would insist on it going the the BMW garage so I want the same with this.

It's going to be a tough conversation later.

Ok, fair dos Paul, you have calmed down a bit smile

Now, in your position, I would be straight to the BMW bodyshop. It is a brand spanking new car and you want it mint.

The parents will probably not understand but, ask them what they would do if they had spent £XXXXX just three days earlier and someone's child damaged it.

If they do not accept full liability, simply inform them your insurance co will be in touch.
