Hi again,

As you can see from the image above me and my daughter made it on Easter holiday after all your help on my electric problems.

Towing that caravan slowed the acceleration a little smile

Anyway, I had to replace the rear tyres as I managed to run over a screw - nice.

Originally there was

S03's on the front 225/45/16
S02's on the rear 225/45/16

When I noticed the rear nearside looked a bit flat i checked pressures - all tyres were about 32 except the flat one (20). Checking in the manual/black handbook it said 28 should be on back and 25 on the front (loaded/highr speed driving).

So I set them to 25 front, 28 rear and drove home - taking it easy cos of the flat.

I got the rear pair changed to Toyos (the bridgstone S03's quote was £360 for the pair - the Toyos were £172 pair)

Anyway - I asked the guy what pressure he had put them on and he said 32 - and said that will be fine.

So my question is, do you use what is best pressure for the tyre (Toyo Proxes T1-R 225/45 R16 W (93), Reinforced * 2)

Or go by the what the manual says?

What should my front SO3's 225/45/16
and rear Toyo Proxes T1-R's be??

Cheers.

Mike.

Hi Mike

I have 18" spiders rather than the RLs, but I do run the Toyos. Mine are set to 24 all round, which seems to work very well.

I suspect that the wheel size will make a bit of difference to recommendations, as the taller side wall that you have probably benefits from a bit higher pressure.

Cheers

Ian

Wheel size makes little or no difference. It's all about the mass of the vehicle. You only want to up the pressure slightly when running lower profile tyres to protect the rims.

Is the car an early one as I think they changed the pressures later on.

Also mine feels terrible on anything more that 22-24 on the road. Upping to 28-30 (I think) on track.

I'd start with 22 front and 24 rear as a lot of people use these pressures.

You should find it drives much nicer.

And get rid of the SO3's off the front as soon as you can too.

Ok Cheers,

so it doesn't really matter about what the tyres are?

and do you know what TL's are? is that a different kind of wheel?

Cheers.

24 all round here. And I agree with Ridds on the SO3s. Get shot of ASAP.

smile

ETA: Shouldnt the rears be 255s?

Ok so 22 on the front SO3's and 24 on the rear Toyos should be ok for every day driving - like to 100mph normal road driving?

Cheers.

RLs = Racelines = a brand of rims used by TVR
but not shure if yours are RLs as suggested
But i do know that airpressure does depend on tyrewidth.

I run 24/25psi all round here too.

I've not used SO3's on the Cerb, although I seem to be in the minority, as on the V8S I really appreciated the hard side walls SO3's come with and found the likes of GYF1's far too soft walled, rolling on the rim and distorting under acceleration. I currently run Fk452's which seem to be in between the two. I would imagine GYF1's to be worse on the Cerb with all that extra power, T1R's are similar to F1's in their softness but haven't used those either confused.

No they are Oz Saturns in 16". The Raceline's (RL's) came mainly in 17" and also 18" before being replaced by the Spiders.

Ok HarryW,

so they are Saturns wheels - wat do you think about my tyre pressures. I am so out of my depth with this car, but I knew that when I got it. I came from a VW Campervan to this !!

So what about the tyre pressures - is it that important - I'm not going to be racing (just lost my job after 20 years with same company) just trying to keep it as long as possible.

Cheers.

If your going to be going fast a lot then I'd up them 1-2 PSI.

What width are the Saturns? 7x16? I'd like a larger tyre on the rear with these cars. Providing the rim will take it.

Hello again,

Im not sure - I am only going by the tyre size that was already on them.

225/45/16 for both front and back - they were SO3 on front and SO2 on rear.

Cheers.

Mike, for now stick 24/25psi in all round. See how they feel. A few psi either way can change the feel of the car. Best run them on 24 for a little while, then do stick them up to say 28, run it for a few miles like that, then drop back to 24 again. See what feels better (my money is on the 24 smile)

I stand to be corrected (not being that technical etc), but would recommend that when you come to replace the fronts, put the current rears (225) on the front, and then get 255s put on the rears. As you have just stuck Toyos on, and many peeps rate them, you are best to stick with Toyos when you change the fronts (soon to be rears...now Im confusing myself, so you must be completely confused)

PS Where in East London are you? I get up that way every few weeks. Always like poking around a Cerb. Happy to sit in the car with you to see what it feels like?

Hi, I'm between Stepney Green and Limehouse.

Thanks for that - sounds like a good plan - I'll try 25 for a while. I must admit that changing the rears and having different pressures all round made a lot more difference to the driving than I expected. Strangely, lowering the pressure on the front seems to have (unless it's my imagination) made the front more skittish? Or maybe its generally cos of the new rears - I don't know. I would have thought raising the pressure would have this effect.

Anyway, I'll try a nice figure of 25 all round next time I'm out for a bit of a drive.

Cheers.

Mike.
