window sensors ?
Discussion
Hmm, on my '96 there is no sensor to say the window is far enough down, seems as though the motor just runs for a set time period. Pretty sure there are updates to this on later models. I did have trouble with the drivers window not lowering properly a couple of times. One time that was caused by the connector onto the motor not making good contact. The second time it was the connector that resides between the two door skins. It was a two pole round connector that became corroded. The symptom both times was that the window got more and more sluggish.
There is a sensor on early cars, and is probably the same on later ones, a reed switch which is operated when the window drops, and then tells the control unit when to operate the door opening solenoid.
Have a look a this, maybe operating early i.e the arm is stuck out too far, I know that the modified switches have plastic arms, a lighter and some adjustment if this is the case.
The control box also has a built in timer, which if the switch in the door doesn't work then it opens the door anyway, however this is normally about halfway through the windows travel, and then it doesn't close fully when shutting the door or locking.
If all else fails a slight mod of the A post with an angle grinder should do the trick.

so spend 30 plus for a nice cerb then £20 on a grinder its a real bitch when silly little things happen mine doesnt seem to fully go down on passenger only, and when you close the door it goes up but not as it does when you lock it with fob. I know it might sound stupid but were is the control box and reed switch so i can have a look ( please say it int in the door can i ...k work out how to get panel off with out breaking clips more help please si
you have to un do the alan bolts on the door about 5 or 6 of them, and that how you get inside the door. p.s. the door panel has a plug connector on the back for the door opener etc. the micro switch is to the front of the inner door at the top, and the control box is at the bottom of the door. hope this helps.
As t8rus says, there is a control box in the door, however I think thats the one for the mirrors.
The door/window box is in the boot, behind the carpet where the cd changer sits. normally on the right hand side.
May be worth "resetting". Disconnect the plug with the red and black wires, leave a couple of minutes and plug in.
Chances are it won't sort your problem, but easiest things first eh!!!
Oh, make sure you leave the door open when you do it!
